On our specifications it states our van has "provision for solar as standard". On discussions with various people I have been advised that I have a connector pin that has provision for it to be connected to the car via seven small pins as normal and in addition it has 5 larger pins for connect...

I've seen mention of poor wiring and various faults with 240v wiring in caravans on this forum but have now seen it for myself. Currently we are at day 4 stripping the cladding from our van as it has come adrift from the frame It has been a bit of an eye opener as far as poor quality workmanship goes but the w...

Despite the photo on the left, I really have a 7yo Avan Rhys hard top which is very comfortable, tows well and - except for the fact that we would love a shower & toilet - is great for our current needs. But I have recently seen an Elddis (English van totally redesigned for Australian conditions) that...

Hi! I was never happy with the battery condition LED display in my Avan, so I fitted a cheap - but incredibly clever - digital power meter from Ebay OK. I will only handle 25 amps, but since my charge cable is protected by a 25A fuse, it is quite safe. It can also monitor minor loads like lights, etc. and gi...

Today I removed one of my brake drums to check for worn linings and found the linings badly scored, especially the secondary shoe. They looked like someone had taken a wire brush to them with grooves about 1mm deep all along the lining. The brake drum has matching grooves but they are barely visible and...

Looking around for a dash cam found a couple of units that gave me more options at an acceptable price. I purchased a Mobius camera, around $79 and a fraction bigger than a packet of Tic-Tacs with a host of features that suited me. I didn't want a Dashcam with a screen, I wanted one that would do time lapse,...

Hello everyone. We have been caravanning for just two years and have lots to learn. We see things advertised and wonder! G'Day, I'm fitting new magnets and the current hurdle is how do I compress the plastic grommet that the green wires go through so I can pull the wires - it's the same fitting seen on electrical 240vac appliances. I can brutishly remove it but would like to know the other (proper) method of removal. Man...
