Many members will be aware of my utter contempt for WDH units. As we know, there are many types of WDH, each type supplied in an effort to make people believe that a vehicle can do things for which it never was designed, but this example is new to me. Can anybody explain how it works? Cheers

My assertion that the 10% rule of ATM to towball weight is so variable that it is a starting point only for the average caravanner. TBW isnt a mandatory requirement, it can be a recommendation. Most people realise that there is various ways to increase yaw like speed, low or high towball weight etc. I su...

Caravan to mobile home or other or reverse
(Preview)
How many of you have sold your van/rig to purchase a mobile home for any reason? I'd like to know those reasons. I did read a few years ago a couple that sold their 22ft van, purchased a mobile home then went back to a caravan but didnt get a chance to question why. So the positives and negatives of your rea...

Rattly Towbar?
(Preview)
Recently, at a free canp, I met a lady travelling solo, and she mentioned that there was a 'rattly noise' when she was travelling with the van in tow. Naturally I decided to have a look. I pulled the shank out of the receiver and soon determined that this was the problem. Somebody, in their wisdom, had cut...

Towball Weight, Caravan Design and Proper Loading.

Recently I visited a business that supplies a wide range of caravan parts, and also offers a complete caravan repair service. As I neared the entrance to the business I noticed an older couple messing around with one of those so-called "towball weight scales", so I stopped to chat. The van was a single...

Elite Luxury Class 1610 BD Tow Ball Weight
(Preview)
I am posting this on behalf of my neighbours. They recently purchased a 2014 Elite Luxury Class 1610 BD. After taking it to get weighed, they have a tow ball weight of 400 kg and their ATM was 2180. The current VIN plate shows an ATM of 2108 and max ball weight of 350. Even if they can get it's ATM recertified...

GVM upgrades and other stuff

Hi all, I have seen lots info about this over the years but wanted an update with new rules for different states. My son in law has a 2022 Prado and a van which on paper everything looks ok until he starts loading car and van. He had a mobile weighing station come to him only to be told was non-compliant and th...

WDH again

I just got this in a Facebook group and though the antics of the presenter are tiresome, the message is still valid. When pointed out it is obvious that WDH will add stresses along the caravan chassis, but that a stress fracture could be created under the van body never occurred to me. I had seen photos of...

Towball Weight

Wonder about the towball weight on this setup. Front axle of trailer is a lot further up inside the mudguard than is the rear axle, and rear of car appears to be a lot closer to the ground than does the front. Another driver with no idea? Cheers

I'm currently camped near Swan Hill in NW Victoria and on the way here I noticed a weighbridge just north of Kerang, as I shall be returning that way in a couple of weeks I'd like to take the opportunity to weigh my rig. Distance from centre of rear axle to tow ball.

My new Pathfinder has over a metre, and the factory tongue is a little short . My Adria 3004 hitch touches on the vertical part of the tongue. Bad design for euro hitches.IMO.
