Performance of Dometic B300 AirCon compared to Dometic Harrier Plus
(Preview)
Hello Travelers, I have a 2011 Winnebago Esperance 7.93m with Dometic B3000. Cooling struggled last summer, but the continue thump when starting up/recycling during the night was the killer. Lying in bed and anticipating when it kicks in next (every 5-10 mins) is not conducive to restful sleep. My...

Rusty Corner Stabilizer, or known as drop down jack
(Preview)
If you have little or nothing to do, remove the rubber cap and have a look inside the rhs behind the bolt, above the wind mechanism. Dound our " no name " ones have a perfect moisture trap. From a little to a moderate amount of rust. I have so far put the rust convertor on, hence the black look. -- Edited by Cra...

Making food containers airtight
(Preview)
Few, if any, of the containers in which we purchase foodstuffs today are airtight once opened. For many foods which are consumed quickly this doesn't matter but for long lasting items such as stock powder, cooking sauces and the like it does. If exposed to air (oxygen) for a long period many of these it...

Providing your location to emergency services
(Preview)
I tend to camp in tucked away spots in forests and such so giving my location to others can be an issue. It occured to me that if an emergency occured (heart attack, tree falling on the caravan etc) then it's quite likely I'll be in shock at that point too and I recall the couple of times in my life when I have e...

Copper plumbing pipe joining techniques
(Preview)
An observation rather than a tip. Just had a new Rheem Stettar stainless steel tank installed (dodged a bullet with the old standard tank at 12 years, rust was coming out) on copper tray & mains cutoff valve (not actually required as it is in the foundations & not within the habitable area, bu...

Household cleaners - make your own

A year or two back I grew frustrated with domestic cleaning agents such as surface spray, laundry powder and such; not only are they mostly bad for the environment they are also expensive and often not effective so I did some research and now make my own. All the following ingredients are available fro...

Transporting Water
(Preview)
I saw a brilliant idea recently whilst going for a wander around a campground I was in. I imagine some of you already use this system but for those stuck in prehistoric times like myself it might be something to consider. When I travel to areas where water might be an issue I usually fill the two water tank...

Keeping water tank breathers clear
(Preview)
As you pump water into your caravan tanks the air must escape in order to allow the water to fill the tank, to this end all tanks have breather pipes and in many vans these pipes terminate in the filling nozzle area, in my van that is a small (5mm) hole at the top (12 O'clock) position of the fill inlet, you'...

Android: audible notification for calls and text messages
(Preview)
Many mobile phones nowadays do not provide a "Notification" LED, this omission drives me nuts! The notification LED flashes every 10 seconds or so as an indicator of a missed call or SMS, however because most people under 50 seem to always have their noses in their phones many manufacturers decided t...

Defrosting Plate
(Preview)
Very handy if you forget to put out in time. This one is a repurposed heat sink, (part of) from a Grundfos Pump Panel. So may be heavier than store bought, but works well for us. Takes at least an hour off defrost time on chops or chicken or steak. Dont know about tofu.

It is a good idea to "power cycle" (ie. turn off, wait two minutes, turn on) your mobile phone, tablet, notebook computer etc every so often, I usually do mine about once a month. All these computer type items *will* have bugs in their software and these bugs may, over time, lead to issues arising which m...
