Copper plumbing pipe joining techniques

An observation rather than a tip.

Just had a new Rheem Stettar stainless steel tank installed (dodged a bullet with the old standard tank at 12 years, rust was coming out) on copper tray & mains cutoff valve (not actually required as it is in the foundations & not within the habitable area, but did it anyway.

Anyway, the actual point is the plumber hydraulically joined the copper tubes with battery powered hydraulic tool. Gone have the days of soldering, brazing or welding.

Pressed joints OK if you never need to remove them - swage fittings hard to beat.

Would be interesting to see how the electric tool works. I've only ever used one of these with a hammer to flare copper pipe.

This is it. Eye watering price. I think he had 4 size crimpers in the box.

  Thanks.

Wow, a bit more machine than I expected. Not your average Makita/DeWalt jobbie!

I think I the 'eye watering price' was an underwater estimation, it was actually a backside retention issue!
