I bought a USB A to USB C standard cable (Belkin (NOT a USB OTG cable)). My 2007 Mac keyboard works very well on my Sony phone & also on other half's Motorola G31 phone.

I only have keyboards with a wire. The youngest is 2007. Even my PC keyboards are pre USB, XP still works fine.
