This mornings newspaper contains a story about the new Mazda BT50 (AKA Isuzu DMax) and it captured my attention because it seems that,at last, someone has had the intestinal fortitude to reveal the towing inadequacies of the current crop of 5950-6000kg GCM utes.Such cars are presented as "tows 350...

Hi Yobarr, If you can do some homework and work out the ATM and GCM for these tugs and what is legal that they can actually tow, then we can work on vans !! Just a random list off of Google, so no favourites. Maybe it might need to be downloaded and put on a spreadsheet. Cheers Bob -- Edited by Bobdown on Tuesda...

Weighing ATM
(Preview)
Next week with luck I will weigh my Vans ATM. (Water tanks empty) 1. Coupled to ute i will weight on both axles. 2. I will un-couple and weigh TB using jockey wheel. 3. Add both gives my my ATM..right. My question is,,will the TB weight be far out? As obviously the jockey is not identical to tow ball.

I was surprised to see mine had increased by 360kg from a 240kg towball wieght. Also front axle has reduced by 140 kg to 1100kg , Is there a...

adding weight to rear of van
(Preview)
I am looking at carrying a bike on the rear of the van. van is 18.5 ft and at the moment no trouble with the towing, never noticed any swaying, also use a WDH. The bike weights 15kg, is this enough to cause any swaying or any other difference to the towing of the van. How much weight can you add before it will ma...

Dog Trailer v Pig Trailer
(Preview)
Seems that even way back in the 1960s the Leyland brothers understood that if you want to use a lightweight car to tow a heavy trailer,a DOG trailer is inherently much more stable than is a PIG trailer, and the only safe way to go.These days, however,it seems that simple physics is not understood by a lar...
