RE: Tow ball weight transfer to car rear axle

yobarr you seem to have a fixation about WDH's being a band aid, like many others of the anti WDH brigade. I seriously wonder if you or them have any practice experience in the setup and use of them. Drive down the Bruce Hwy any day of the week you will see many a poorly setup combination, I've even see your beloved 79er with ir are almost dragging on the road towing a big humpback, that's nots saying a WDH is the remedy, I would hazard a guess that 99% of caravans out on roads have never crossed weighbridge. I had this same battle with numpties on another forum, the end result was they pulled their heads in after I proved them wrong, like many other anti WDH opponent the majority had never used one and were forming an opinion based on misleading information like your "Band Aid" remark.

Add this to the fixation that all caravans have an ATM of 3,500 kgs and a ball weight of 350 kgs no

Graham, initially I had decided to ignore this rant, but the comment about the 79 got my interest. There is no way known that a 79,with its 2300kg rear axle, would be "....almost dragging on the road",assuming maximum towball weight of 350kg was adhered to.With 350kg towball weight,my car drops less than 50mm at the rear of the tray.Strange that you should mention that you  "....had this same battle with numpties on another forum". The other members did not "....pull their heads in" and you NEVER "proved them wrong"....they just determined that it was pointless arguing with you.Had you been reading my posts, you would have noted that I have spent much time experimenting with WDHs,even doing a trip with one,so there is no need to "seriously wonder if you or any of them have any practice experience in the setup and use of them". With my car,and its capabilities,I soon determined that a WHD creates more problems than it solves....think "increased TBO",which immediately makes the car less stable,(think 'levers"),think "extra weight" because a WDH with bars etc weighs better than 20kg,so straight away there is 30kg EXTRA on the car's rear axle. Running around with your little tape measure, checking distance from road to wheel arch, and from top of tyre to wheel arch, and making sure the car is level etc,is an exercise in stupidity. It matters not if the front of a car rises when weight is put on the towball, provided that there still0 is sufficient weight there to allow efficient steering and braking.Your comment that "....99% of caravans out on roads have never crossed (a) weighbridge" is certainly relevant, and, like you,I have seen some shocking examples.Maaate, don't these clowns get aggro when challenged! Ignorance is bliss. Again, for your benefit,I will suggest that a WDH is a "Band Aid" solution, used by some to make a car do things for which it never was designed. Already I am anticipating your response to the last sentence, but I will address that when/if it arises.Have a great day! Cheers
