House sitting
(Preview)
It has been an interesting first two weeks, out of four, house sitting for my friends - well... someone has to make sure the house doesn't run away! :) A pleasant and spacious bush property bordering the Murray River in northern Victoria. I have known the owners for some time and they were, rightly, con...

questions: clothing optional/age as a factor/etc
(Preview)
Having introduced myself elsewhere, telling my story, I realized there were a couple questions left off... first, is it normal for old, mid-80s folks to be traveling alone? Is this age, if in good physical and mental (??) condition a limiting factor? Should it be? second, while not sure but interest...

Using Low Range
(Preview)
I have a 2005 Nissan Patrol with 4.2td motor (original hubs), towing a 2.5 tonne dual axle caravan. What are the experts thoughts on using low range to take off when Ive been forced to stop on a steep hill. Not talking about long distance driving in low range, just using it to take off on hills then back to...

Diesel filling - High flow to low flow adaptor
(Preview)
A few weeks ago I started a thread about high flow diesel pump nozzles being too large for my Trailblazer tank but we didn't really find a solution. However today I came across this: Diesel adaptor A$37 delivered. It is a Volkswagen OEM part but, I imagine, it will fit most (all?) cars.

Rain and more Rain South East. Queensland.
(Preview)
Ok, folks, we live in Logan City which is virtually a suburb of Brisbane. I am sure that you would be aware of the huge deluge of rain that has hit the southeast corner of our State and the flow on into NSW's northeastern region. My recollection is that we have not experienced this sort of rain and flooding...

EV Battery Exchange
(Preview)
This may be interesting, initially doomed to failure simply because vehicle manufacturers wont standardise battery designs/sizes. How good would it be if an EV could just spend 2 minutes swapping batteries rather than lengthy recharging on the go. copy/paste the link in your search engine http...

We are leaving Cairns on Monday heading south. I welcome any info on how busy parks are. Townsville for a few days, Bowen and then to Collinsville. Nebo next stop and then on to Gladstone. I am loathe to book in advance with so many variables happening! Happy to free camp too. Thanks!

Buying sight unseen. Be carefull.

18 months ago I bought our caravan without going to look at it. The price was ok at the time, and looked good in the pictures. The van was about 300ks away and I felt I had to make a decision straight away. My wife said thats the layout I want and all the mod cons. 21f Adria 612DP. So I bought it over the phone. Di...

"Don't go there", "Just get your fuel & go" "It's not safe" "Barbed wire around the CP" "Lock up everything" "Don't leave your van unattended" We've all heard these sort of things - almost inevitably they relate to Aboriginal towns, or towns with high aboriginal populations. Ceduna, Halls...

Insuring older vans
(Preview)
We have a 2007 Jayco Sterling 18 foot pop top so it's 15 years old. We insure for market value which is $18600. The premium is $477 with a $300 excess. It also has $20 000 000 public liability. Is it worth it? I like having public liability, but the tow vehicle already has it, so do I need two lots of cover? Col...
