Improve your caravan's radio antenna
(Preview)
Improve your caravan's radio antenna Most caravans, it appears, are fitted with a short flexible whip antenna for their radios, usually roof mounted, these antennas are very poor performers at both AM and FM frequencies. I considered replacing the one on my van with a better antenna but decided the...

Suburban SW6DEA gas hot water system does not fully light itself

Like so many other caravan owners I have a Suburban SW6DEA gas hot water system in my caravan. I used it once successfully about 3 years ago and then on every successive trip I did so much swimming at public pools that I would shower there and have therefore not tried to use it again until a couple of weeks...

Falling branches - a reminder
(Preview)
As I spend most of my time in forests then by necessity I usually camp under trees and just take the risk. However very close to my current campsite I came across the following (see pic). As you can see the gate is made from steel tube but a falling branch has landed directly on it and significantly deforme...

Texas Qld
(Preview)
Hi guys, we no longer have our big Jayco.
Instead have a 30 second tent just to get away occasionally. We used to love Texas by the river and thought we might spend a few days there.
Unfortunately there is a rule that tents are not permitted. We are self contained with porta loo
etc. Just wondering if an...

Can you strap a jerry can on top of your maxtrx
(Preview)
I was planning on filling a 10lt jerry can and keeping it on the passenger floor (just for the Oodnadatta track, just in case as I'm doing a few little detours) then using it up as soon as I get to Marree. I know it's not recommended but thought I could get way with it, but now I'm not so sure. The other option...

I usually camp in the forests so don't see other caravaners often but for the past five days I've camped in the bowling club area in Wentworth, NSW. This is a rectangular sealed area about 150m x 30m so it's fairly easy to manoeuvre a caravan here. What has provided a simple pleasure is watching wives "he...

What A Difference (Mk 11)

When I bought the Isuzu new in 2014 it came with Bridgestone Dueler A/T tyres on and so when I replaced them at 65K I replaced them with the same. Except for the feel of new tyres the ride was much the same, pretty firm. this is partly due to having an extra leaf fitted in the rear for towing etc, I have now repl...
