Storm & Rain Post by KJ - In Area That Possibly Shekon & Frangipani are in.

Not sure where the ladies are at the moment, but if still in that general area this would make for muddy boggy roads and rising river/creek crossings, see KJ's thread;

Thanks Vic, the clouds are very heavy South of where we are at present. We are camping at Gascoyne River (South Branch) tonight. A nice spot away from water and on good solid ground. At present the black clouds are moving further South but will certainly being keeping and eye on things. Map REF: 434 in the Camps 8 book. We are not off the black stuff so all good in our little world.

So glad you're both safe and well, if crossing any floodways etc beware of flash flooding even if the sun is shining where you are.

Many years ago I was sitting on the steep bank of a dry creek in the Shark Bay area, not a cloud in the sky, when a wall of water came rushing down the creek the height of the creek bank.   Apparently it had been raining some kilometres away but not where I was.   I was lucky I was not in the creek itself, I would have been history.

 Yes we've been in a similar situation, we were parked on the banks of the Moore river (further south WA) and we could see the rain clouds inland from us but we never saw a drop of rain, the Moore river had been a stagnant trickle, overnight it rose so rapidly we had nearly a foot of water around us, very scary at the time but we moved very quickly and learned a lesson re being close to river banks.

They reckon that some of the locals have been washed away by flash flooding in the Todd River in Alice Springs as a lot of them sleep there from time to time.   I suppose it happens elsewhere as well.

Glad you were ok Brian, it would have been scary and good to know you saw it in time to move safely.

Glad to know that you are both safe.  A lot of us follow you with our computers, map and our hearts too.

Lovely colours in your photos too.   Date slice sounds like a good idea....yum.

Thank you Panther. It is always nice to know that people are interested in our travels. Thank you for your words of encouragement.

We are really lucky to be a part of a family that do care about other travellers.
