Just logged in and I see KiwiJims has been keeping you informed about the fires. With the Northcliffe area almost local, I followed what they were enduring closely. Thanks to the hard work and dedication of many, including fire-fighters from Victoria and New South Wales, and now a contingent from Queensland, the final wrap is 98,300 hectares burnt. The was no loss of human life, no reported loss of farm animals, but the amount of wildlife lost in such a big and intensely hot fire must be huge. People have returned to Northcliffe, and those from Windy Harbour are now able to come and go. However many roads and tracks in the area are still closed until declared safe.
With more of an impact on travellers, is the closure of the South West Highway between Wheatley Coast Road intersection 29 kilometres south of Manjimup, and Crystal Springs 13 kilometres west of Walpole. This 106 kilometre section of the highway is still closed while it is repaired and made safe. The opening of the highway is a priority, but it will still take some weeks to complete. Options are to travel between the South West Highway and Albany/Denmark include the Muir Highway from Manjimup, or to choose the Albany Highway.
The fire at Lower Hotham concurrent with the one at Northcliffe together burnt a massive amount of forest and private land. The south west of Western Australia is a summer fire risk area. Although these particular fires were started by lightning strike, the tinderbox we live in her during summer means that no campfires can be lit throughout most of the South West, Great Southern and Wheatbelt regions during the summer months. Facebook members can see more about the fires, campfires and other topical subjects on my page "Australia So Much to See".
While the land is dry and parched in summer, I have seen so many caravans coming through town, even more since the school holidays finished. Visit the South West in winter, when all is green and pretty, and bushfire risk is minimal, and travel safe.

A bushfire EMERGENCY WARNING remains for people in western parts of Casuarina and Anketell, and the eastern part of Bertram in the City of Kwinana, bounded by Anketell Road, Treeby Road, Bombay Boulevard, Orton Road and Johnson Road. This includes the Kwinana Freeway.
I was faced with this once in a life time decision, to stay and protect my home or ------ go and watch the Freo Dockers play. I weighed up all the pros and cons and spent sometime contemplating the consequences, about 2 nano seconds and went and watched the Dockers.
Choppers everywhere, water bombers and what sounded like every fire appliance in the district attending the fire.
Fire died down just have a house that smells smokey.

Great Pic's there iana, Being a Dockers supporter myself, I would have done the same thing.
Don't worry about the smoke, just invite a few of the Dockers around and they will blow the house clean in no time.

There are a number of apps out there that are applicable to fires in each state also a wide range of Webb sites run by state and local brigades that provide regular updates on fires and other types of emergencies are covered by the State Emergency Service, I recently found another very good app which covers all types of emergency incidents in all states and from what I can see is well up to date with its information and best of all it's free.
The app is emergency Aus .

I did read yesterday there is a fire up at Bluewater, just north of Townsville. Had burned part of a dwelling and destroyed a shed, still burning in bush nearby.
