Salt Ash bushfire in NSW upgraded to emergency....

Fire burns in bushland

An emergency warning has been issued as the Salt Ash bushfire, in New South Wales' Hunter region, intensifies again.

The NSW Rural Fire Service [RFS] said the out of control fire at Port Stephens, which has already destroyed more than 1486 hectares, is burning towards Rookes Road, Lemon Tree Passage Road and Brownes Road.

The RFS said fire activity was "increasing as the day warms up".

People in the area have been warned to take shelter as the fire approaches - it is too late to leave.

Strong westerly winds have impacted the fire ground.

There have been no confirmed reporters of any loss or damage to property.

The RFS has also warned people in the areas of Tilligerry, Tanilba Bay, Mallabula and Lemon Tree Passage.

As of this morning, there are about 82 bush and grass fires burning across the state.

Firefighters will continue working to contain fires burning in Port Stephens, Shoalhaven and Bega.

The RFS said windy conditions are not expected to ease up until Wednesday, which means some areas will remain Very High fire danger.

Fire Danger Spikes in the NT.....

Hot and dry conditions are combining with gusty winds to produce severe and extreme fire danger across the Top End today.

All parts of the mainland coast along with the Katherine Fire Protection Area have a severe fire danger rating for Saturday.

Darwin and the Adelaide River area is experiencing extreme fire dangers today on the back of many severe fire danger days in September.

 FD%20NT.JPG

Temperatures are again climbing well into the mid-thirties for most of the state with humidity generally below 20%. At 2:00pm CST, Bradshaw recorded a relative humidity of just 8%, along with temperatures above 37 degrees.

Despite the hot and dry conditions, it is the increased wind speeds blowing from the east today that is leading to such a large area seeing severe or higher fire dangers.

I hope this works as I am having trouble posting the link.

I received an email from 'matildatraveller' who is on kangaroo Island (Skippy Island as I call it) asking if I would put this link up to warn everyone here. She is on the Island and has very limited Internet.

Basically, all the Island is under threat.
