This afternoon, the F3is closed in both directions north of the Cardiff exit, and the Pacific Highway is closed near Charlestown.

Thanks for this web-site, we've been referring to it extensively over the past few days. Bless you to all those firies out there, they have been doing a wonderful job.

Hi Ruth... you could do what we are doing in reverse, we're in Wellington ATM, heading south east when the fire/weather forecast looks safer.

Our kids seem to think it will be OK even though there are new fires around Newcastle today. Our daughter has been affected twice by the Heatherbrae fire trying to get home!! Harder to accept when you know it was deliberately lit.

This pic was taken by someone at the Victorian fires a couple of years ago......pays to know where the fires are if staying at a CP or other camping area etc as well as where you will be travelling.....

We came south fromNewcastle last Sunday. Lots of burnt out bush and smoke till Goulburn, then blue sky till we got the Victorian haze.
Yesterday in Newcastle, there were major road closures -some from the fires, some from a major road accident.... But terrible traffic ....
Now the fires are downgraded and mostly under control.

The situation at home is a worry, and not a good time to be away, in one sense.

The weather at home is hot, dry and windy..... And here we are, 3degrees, cold, wet, and snow forecast on higher peaks...... Can't win.

The fires around Newcastle are currently under control or out today, no road closures. But there is a bit of smoke haze about this morning at Port Stephens

I wish it had been mine Wombat, but glad I wasn't there to take it, it was taken by someone during the Vic fires a couple of years ago, I don't know the story behind it or exactly where it was, but it looked pretty scary in the photo.  I dug it out of my archives....

The Fire in the lower mountains is now under control with a majority of crews stood down, and Brigades now doing a roving watch and black out of any flare ups, we still have the State Mine fire unchecked in wild country but it is not expected to impact on residential areas in the near future there are efforts being made to try and stop this fire but it will take some doing.

I would be very interested to know how many of our members are involved in serving the community through the various emergency service organisations.

Hawkesbury also has a fire at Howes Creek. Lots of crews from NSW fighting it.

There is a new app called My Fire Plan, can be downloads for Apple or Android phones and tablets.

The State Mine fire that linked up with the Mt Victoria fire and traveled down into the Hawkesbury also the Linksview and Yellow rock fire have been declared out by the RFS which is great news, there will be an extended recovery phase for the Linksview and Yellow Rock areas with in excess of 210 homes destroyed or damaged by the fires.

Please take care the fires that we have experienced are an indicator of what can still happen as we are only just into the fire season and the fuel on the ground is incredibly heavy across the state. The rain we have had in November has certainly been welcome but a week of hot windy weather will totally negate all of the effects of this rain, be careful and play safe out in the big playground.

This is a complete tragedy.
My Head trainer lives in Coutts Crossing and here are some photos of her property alight and you'll see how close to their house the fires were.
Shame on the digusting people who lit these fires, i would love 5 minutes with them grrrrrr
I am happy to say that my friend and her 83 yo mother are ok, both had smoke inhalation and were in hospital but are ok. Now sadly they have loads of damages to repair. At least thanks to the NSW and QLD Fire Depo they saved their house and have kept the roof over their heads... as for the kennel set up and all... that's now just rubble
As much as i love a camp fire these images and news always brings tears to my eyes!

This photo below where you see the brigade's truck lights you can see two lights which are from the house... shows how close the fires were from their house
