Well here goes...my first post.

Believe it or not daily i pop into the Grey Nomad Forum to have a bit of a read and have been so silently for the last four/five years. There is a wealth of information here along with plenty of down to earth characters who i feel i could easily connect too, i look forward to meeting some of you one day soon.

I intend selling up, buying a cheaper van and finding out for sure if life on the road is for me. I have learnt so much from all of you already i pretty much know exactly what to look for when buying time comes around however i am sure i will need a bit of your help when that time comes. I think this year will be the year for me

Because i am new i exspect i will not be doing a lot of postings conciderating i have nil exsperience but i will be here! Feel free to send a PM.

Welcome grill n chill to the forum. Great place to be and learn. Heck I am a novice, but the things that I have learnt and the questions that I have posted on here have given me a wealth of information, for when I am ready to hit the road. Look forward to hearing the questions that you have and remember there are no silly questions because as sure as little eggs if you are thinking about it then somebody else will be also.

Hi Grill n Chill welcome to the forum and keep on posting as we are all interested in your plans and aspirations. I bought a cheap older van and have been kitting it out with solar panels etc with a view to being as independent as possible and free camping for extended periods. It's been great fun and a huge learning curve, lots of mistakes due to inexperience but have bumbled through reasonably well thanks to all the advice and experience of people on here. Never be afraid to ask for advice. Hope to hear more from you.

Geez Peter, I was really sad to read your comments on your bio about the fights, all forums from my experience have their squabbles and ups and downs but in general this is one of the most friendly ones and Cindy and the members strive to keep it that way.

You are most welcome here so don't let that put you off. I was also a solo dad for 20 years and bought 4 kids up on my own, but know the pressures that this can bring whether physically caring for them or not.

I have been doing RV travel for over 30 years and am still learning and think I always will be, the experience is always changing in one way or the other and still heaps of things I do not know.

You are wise to get involved in the forum now and forge forum friendships which will make your travels all that much more enjoyable.

Hello all, i have just joined in anticipation of doing the big dash.

The post by Rama 60 caught my eye - I am currently finishing off an RB 145.. I love it even though its slow and heavy, and it has the same windows as yours, they don't open. How do you find this when not hooked up to power?

Thanks for your very warm welcome,I am heading up north in Wa, camping along the way however long it takes and which ever way the wind blows just hope to enjoy the free life style....open to all to join me or just say hello when you go past,Life is to short you just have to enjoy as much as possible.

Hey there, I'm 63 yrs young and travelling with a little maltese/terrier dog. I back packed around the world on my own in 2003 and I reckon I was completely lost in every country I visited, scared a couple of times when no one spoke english and I had no idea where I was or which way to go. I reckon travelling in Australia will be a breeze after that, at least everyone speaks the same language and if I get lost I still know I'm still in Australia. It sounds to me like there are heaps of single female travellers going about Aus. I haven't heard any horror stories, yet. Mind you I know that it is wise to be security aware and meeting up with different solo people along the way especially when free camping or out of the way places. Be safe and happy trails. Let's know where you're heading and what good spots you have found?

Hi there, A big welcome. I'm 73 years young and have an almost identical travelling companion these days called Cody - Terrier/Chitzu cross. I too have hitchi-hiked around the worl on my own in years past and never had a bad moment. I tell a lie. There was that one time with the East German border guards.

Hi All. Have just joined. I have been busy reading a lot of posts & all the tips . Currently looking for either motorhome or campervan. Does anyone have some suggestions or preferances for their choice? With retirement getting closer I would like to make my purchase & do some smaller trips to get the hang of things & then have a go at the big lap around OZ.Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Welcome to the forum Bud, enjoy your time with us and feel free to ask any questions. Someone will always come up with an answer for you. As for the motorhome/campervan question, I love the space I have in my MH, but it does have it's drawbacks. You definitely need a toad if you want to get out and about and see things. A campervan would be much easier to get about in and cheaper to run, but you have to compromise when it comes to space. Maybe try hiring one of each for a couple of days and see which one you are most comfortable with. I guess it all depends where you plan to go, some of the prettier places are just not accessible in an MH.

Welcome to you Bud, I have got a small poptop c/van and 4x4. Have strengthened the A-frame and raised the suspension for clearance on dirt roads. I'm nearly ready to go. What you choose will be your choice, think about where you want to go and do some hard thinking on how to do it. There are so many choices and I'm sure you will find the one for you.
