'CampWatch', Looking after your Mates
(Preview)
Hi, i'm just wondering if some enterprising person can start up a FB page/group called 'CampWatch'. The whole idea is similar to the Neighbourhood Watch idea. Thinking along the lines of Promo stickers, keyring things etc to raise money and awareness of like minded campers/travelers/ nomads or w...

50amp Anderson plug expand for 4 AWG cable
(Preview)
I needed 4 AWG cable to lower wire resistance over the distance required. 6 AWG wire was not large enough. Also didn't want to use a larger Anderson plug as that created a list of new problems. So I expanded the lug: I drilled a block of wood to the right depth to support the end of the lug & the bottom of t...

Saving water cleaning dust out of vehicle cracks!
(Preview)
If your car's cracks are full of dust & you have enough compressor power. Get an air duster/gun. I bought an Air Boy blower gun - Waterboy. They are pricey, I'm sure there are plenty of alternatives, but it is well made & I prefer to buy things once! Go over the car with air only first & what's l...

Using creek/dam water to fill tanks
(Preview)
Looking for advice from people who actually use this method. I've been refilling my tanks by pumping water from very clear creeks for a while now without issue. I use 3 filters I'm now in western country and the clean streams are very few and far between so I'm after recommendations. I was thinking o...

Music for long trips
(Preview)
I have an early model 2004 Pajero and intend doing some long drive trips now that we have a camper. I was wondering what to do about cutting down the amount of CD'S that I had to carry and the options that were available to me. The Stereo in the car does not have a a USB inlet and I had decided that I could put a lo...

Conserving your precious water
(Preview)
Has anybody rigged up there van so as they can use local water in their shower etc? Instead of using the water in your tanks you conserve that water, which you know to be good quality for vital purposes like cooking, coffee and cleaning teeth etc. This way the water in our 80 lt tank can last us a number of we...

Bench Top Cutting Boards
(Preview)
Hi, We are picking up a new Van after Christmas, the one thing I notice is very limited bench top space for food prep, Im thinking that a Lge HPDE board to fit over the entire stove top would be the answer, it would have to be raised either end so as not to put weight on and damage stove top surface, would any on...

Clearview Mirrors
(Preview)
For those thinking about buying clear view mirrors for their tug, I suggest buying the black ones rather than the dressier chrome. Those that already have a chrome set put a strip of black tape along the top bar on each side. That will stop the sun from reflecting into your eyes like mine does! Murray

Wallpaper Preparation
(Preview)
I am considering wallpapering the bedroom in our RV. Would I be smart by using a sealer like Gripper on the veneer before glueing the wallpaper. I was thinking the Gripper sealer would help the glue to stick better. Appreciate all input on this. Thanks The Blackies

Draught in caravan
(Preview)
If you have a split system Herron Air command or similar and have an unexplained draught whistling around, have a look at where the two white insulated pipes enter and exit the van. Ours had a 'mistake hole " of 50mm, plus the one they used drilled through bottom of cupboard wall next to rear of unit. A cle...

Multiple water tanks - empty?
(Preview)
I'm a total newbie and learning the traditional way by trial and (lots of) error. The single-axle caravan comes with three 95-litre potable water tanks and one grey water tank. Each tank can be filled separately. Any one can then be used for in-caravan use. Two tanks are in front of the axle with one beh...

Powered Tank Selector

I got this idea from another vaner. The solenoids were from Bunnings made for garden water systems. The wiring is not polarity specific, as long as you do each one the same, and just put a 2 way switch in the van or 3 separate switch for 3 tanks.I installed them in the default closed position. The extra lo...
