My Van, a ZoneRV offroad 20'6" is now 5 years old and it's about time I joined the Grey Nomads. Love wandering around beautiful Australia with my wife and friends. Met so many wonderful friendly people over the years- amazes me how helpful fellow travellers are out on the road. I have recently recovered from a second bout of cancer and am now planning our next long trip with a great bunch of friends. We live at Hawks Nest and are planning a trip across the Nullarbor to the bottom of WA next April / May then coming up to Perth and return via Kalgoorlie. We tend to mix our trips with some free camping and some caravan parks largely to stock up on water and supplies. Would appreciate any ideas and recommendations for this trip from others who have completed particularly the Nullarbor and the bottom of WA. Thanks heaps.
Nullarbor is a great drive with loads of free camping and a few very nice little places to see both on the highway and some by venturing North for a little sidetrack - The only downsides, are price of fuel, westerly winds (can be a problem on the Hay Plains as well), very steep cliffs on the Southern side of highway (always camp North of the road), there are also some very deep holes near the coastline (don't wander around in the dark).
Ensure you strictly follow quarantine guidelines (even half an unknown capsicum in the fridge can cause grief) fines and restrictions always apply, no second chances given.
There are some great museums around Albany and Fremantle, if you have the time, take a few weeks to explore the Southeastern corner.
