West Coast of OZ

Aiming to travel the west coast of OZ next Autumn. Older Solo who  prefers to free camp. Leaving from Melbourne across the Nullabor and up from Perth to Derby. Any suggestions, advice, travel  plans, what to avoid or what are the must do.

Main thing to avoid is, travelling head on into the wind crossing the Nullarbor.

What is your method of travel? Campervan, motorhome or caravan?
