Braggs Apple Cider Vinegar. Take about a tablespoon or two in water first thing in the morning. Also Epsom Salts. About three quarters of a tea spoon full with a bit of water first thing in the morning. Both take about a week before they take effect. Hope it helps you as much as it helped my old mum.

My Doctor put me on 500mg Magnesium tablets, one in morning and one at bedtime + Panadol 500mg two at bedtime.

I am unaware of any competent diagnosticians currently on the Forum. Go and see your local Medico have blood test (to determine mineral levels). Would be a good starting point.

I bought some cream in Tasmania that is meant to help with osteoarthritis BUT I don't know where I put it when I got back from my trip...  Not much help to either you or me, unfortunately.  I'll try to look it up in case it might be worth trying.   Anybody telling you they've got a "miracle" treatment is fibbing though it's worth trying things that might help when they aren't making ridiculous claims.  EDIT:  the stuff is called Kunzea

My only suggestion is to consider taking up an activity using your hands on the "use it or lose it" principle.  My left hand was very inflexible so I started guitar lessons.  Then it was better than my right hand so I started piano.  Don't start up doing anything without checking with your doctor(s) but exercise might help.  It depends what's awry in there.  At the very least, concentrating on something else might distract you from the pain.

Speaking of your doctor(s) are you seeing a rheumatologist or "joint guy", or just the gp?  Might be time to seek specialist support, but there's really not a lot anybody can do when your joints are worn out.  A specialist might know more about any new treatments than a gp (or not, but it might be worth a consultation to find out)

I came to the conclusion that the Osteo Panadol was a waste of time and funds, suffered no more by not taking it.

Caruso's cream does help a little bit, but like all his stuf $$$

Read the above and then make your own mind up.
But I will tell you that I have been taking this for years and it keeps my arthritis at bay. If I stop for a week or two my hands become so stiff and painful that I am back on it.
I can testify that it does work although it takes 2 to 3 weeks to see some effect.

It's cheap effective and worth a go if you suffer from arthritis.

I have arthritis in 2 fingers in my left hand (I'm a south paw), and Dequivans tenosynovitis in my right wrist (similar to carpel tunnel).
I could go into a long description of the process, and pain I'm going through, but I won't.

But I will say, I wish someone had told me that 'hand therapist' existed 2 years ago because my therapist is brilliant. It stands to reason that someone who specialises in 'from the shoulder to the end of your fingers' will understand better what is best for you than a GP or a Physio whose knowledge is more general. It costs me $45 gap after Medibank private, but it's worth it to get the best outcome possible.

Gundog, it is believed that people with a inflammatory arthritis (Rheumatoid Arthritis, Osteo Arthritis, Psoriatic Arthritis) will receive benefit from Calcium Fructoborate (with a remarkable superiority over the more common Sodium Tetraborate - Borax) see study below.

I have recently ordered the supplement but won't get it until 12 June or latter.

My arthritis is not severe, so I found reasonable improvement taking Glucosamine.

But I found an interesting side effect when I experimented with a keto diet. The arthritis improved a lot. So, while I am not doing the keto diet anymore, I keep carbs intake to a minimum, particularly the grain products. Now without the Glucosamine, the arthritis is hardly noticeable.

I'm interested in all contributions to this thread.

I have been taking curcumin extract for almost 2 years now & found it to be helpful with arthritic pain in my hands.

However over the past few weeks I have been afflicted by what the doctor told me yesterday is most likely Polymyalgia rhumatica (PMR) or less likely Rhumatoid arthritis. It has come on quite suddenly & I have a variety of symptoms, pain & swelling in a variety of locations & worst I cannot lift either of my arms above shoulder height. Very disabling. Awaiting results of blood tests.

Anyway I told the doc I had been taking standard Panadol once a day 3 x 500mg tablets which had helped a bit. I was told quite clearly that this was not a safe practice & that I should take Osteo Panadol. Now I had thought that the higher dose Osteo Pandol was simply a marketing exercise to sell Panadol at higher prices, & had thought that taking an extra third standard Panadol would be pretty much the same. WRONG! Although the Osteo Panadol has more Panadol in it (665mg vs 500mg) - it is a 'modified release' tablet (ie slow release) which provides a safe level of panadol in the body throughout the course of each day - which is why it is a safe & therapeutic option compared to just taking more standard Panadol.

In my case I started taking it yesterday 2 tablets 8 hourly & have been amazed at how well it has worked. Certainly not a cure but it is quite remarkable how much less pain I have today, & how much better I was able to sleep last night.

Obviously we are all different and what helps one wont necessarily help another, but for me Osteo Panadol has come as quite a revelation, with the understanding that I shouldn't expect 'fast' pain relief, but that over a longer period it will provide therapeutic levels of the drug in my system which so far is remarkably effective with pain which Panadeine Forte didn't touch.

Hopefully it isn't polymyalga rhumatica as my mother had that and it can affect your eyesight and send you blind unless you live on cortisone for the rest of your life which is not good either.

The doc who suggested PMR was a first time visit for me. Thankfully I since discovered that my GP from 5 years ago is still operating (I had thought he'd retired). Saw him this morning & so glad I did, he is an excellent experienced & thorough GP & a lovely bloke to boot. He has formed a hypothesis about what is possibly going on for me, has seen the blood test results ordered by the one-off doc, ordered some more plus some x-rays & MRI scans. Importantly (for me) he does not consider PMR is likely, and thinks my symptoms are likely 'reactive & self limiting'. To what is the big unknown. No guarantees of course but I'm rather more optimistic than I'd felt after seeing the one-off doc who I feel was more interested in impressing me with his knowledge than considering all the potential influencing factors.

Hi Kebbin, where did you buy this stuff ( see below) from. Appreciate a PM.

Thanks
Peter

Peter, I have been taking the Fructoborate for nearly 6 weeks I seem to have improvement in my hands and feet, although the neck facet joint is still being difficult. I think that I will get two more lots of capsules to give it a four month trial all up. The only company I could find was IHerb Australia a Yank company but reasonable prices.

Interesting thread.
I will refer back to it when the time comes.
One of the complaints I have managed to wrack up as one ages is Rheumatoid Arthritis.
Being treated for it in conjunction with two other nasties.
After more than 2 years in total isolation with virtually no immune system (bit better now) I made a comeback to golf to lose some weight after becoming a Fat B@$t%d on a heavy dose of cortisone for over 12 months or more. I see the Rheumatoid Arthritis Professor in about 2 months time but saw one of the three specialists I see regularly last last Monday.
My golf game was awful and I asked him as I had trouble even making contact with that dastardly little white ball sometimes if the Rheumatoid Arthritis was a factor.

He grinned (a lot) and said "There is no treatment or a pill for a lack of ability".

FYI
I've been trying curcumin
It's contraindicated if you are on blood thinners
Well I'm NOT on blood thinners yet when I clean my teeth I'm bleeding like a stuck pig. I mean the sink looks like I've had a nose bleed.
Scared the **** out of me.
I suppose I better not trip over while it gets out of my system.

Thanks possum
But I had perfectly healthy teeth and Gums when I had my 6monthy dental check 3 weeks ago, then 2weeks ago I started taking curcumin tabs. I have no pain or swelling, just dripping blood when I clean my teeth, so I have to assume it's the curcumin.
Bearing the above in mind, I will wait a week for the curcumin to get of my system and if the bleeding does not go away I suppose I should go to the Drs in case I have developed a blood thinning condition.

FWIW I have receded gums & have frequently lived for extended periods with bleeding gums when brushing my teeth. Not nice, & need to be very careful to avoid painful, swollen infected gums.

I have also been taking curcumin daily for around 2 years now, & my wife has also been taking it for around 1 year.

I do occasionally still get periods of bleeding gums, but longer periods without than with. My wife never has bleeding gums.

My conclusion for what it's worth is that the curcumin has had no effect on bleeding gums, at least in our experience.

You should get it checked out, particularly as it has come on so suddenly, but I imagine that gum disease (Periodontititis) is a far more likely culprit. I have found that gentle brushing after every meal helps reduce the bleeding. When I say 'gentle', I changed my brushing style as I think my previous style was overly aggressive with good intentions.
