A lot of people give Greta a hard time, she like me has Aspergers syndrome, and she like me wants to save the planet, but she is the only person willing to do the job. We will be very glad when she succeeds in saving the planet, although we may be dead by then, but our grandkids will be alive and will get the benefit of her work.

It's not so amusing when you read the facts:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chopsticks

"Almost all cooking and disposable chopsticks are made of bamboo or wood. Disposable unlacquered chopsticks are used especially in restaurants. These often come as a piece of wood that is partially cut and must be split into two chopsticks by the user (serving as proof that they have not been previously used). "

Sigh, I should have smelt the BS:

Yer know... I hear a great many people bemoaning how awful global warming is and how governments should "Do something!"

But I have never heard anyone say; "Yes! I'd like to pay more taxes to help fight climate change."

To me, this joke tells us a lot about the kind of people that are attracted to the cause of the climate change deniers. What kind of lowlife would pillory a 15 year old girl by falsely attributing quotations which they themselves have manufactured expressly for this purpose?

In any case, millions of trees are in fact being used for disposable chopsticks, and China had already pre-empted Thunberg's imaginary plea by attempting to tackle the problem in 2006 (when Thunberg was a 3-year-old, presumably still dealing with toilet training, and totally unaware how her newly acquired hygiene skills were destined to inflict decades of destructive deforestation on the planet).

From Snopes ...

"Although Thunberg did not urge China to ban the use of chopsticks, China truly uses millions of trees every year to produce billions of pairs of disposable chopsticks. When concerns about the adverse impact disposable chopsticks had on the environment were raised in 2006, the Chinese government implemented a 5% tax on the utensil in an attempt to slow deforestation."

According to the BBC ...

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/business/4831734.stm

"The Chinese government is introducing a 5% tax on disposable wooden chopsticks in a bid to preserve its forests.

It produces about 45 billion pairs of chopsticks a year, consuming millions of trees and bamboo plants.

The move came as China said it would raise some consumption taxes next month in a bid to help the environment and narrow the gap between rich and poor."

According to this URL ...

http://washingtonpost.com/news/worldviews/wp/2013/03/14/chinas-disposable-chopstick-addiction-is-destroying-its-forests/

"Although this tax may have slowed deforestation, it certainly hasn't stopped it. In 2013, Bo Guangxin, the head of the China Jilin Forest Industry Group, estimated that China was using 20 million trees a year to produce nearly 80 billion pairs of disposable chopsticks."

No one has said why 40 years ago all the islands were going to dissapear due to oceans rising but it did not happen.,
But I did see where some uni professor stated the islands would dissapear withiin 40 years only last week.
The biggest polluter is Volcanoes one puts out more than 40 years of carbon. Try and stop them!

This argument that human-caused carbon emissions are merely a drop in the bucket compared to greenhouse gases generated by volcanoes has been making its way around the rumor mill for years. And while it may sound plausible, the science just doesnt back it up.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), the worlds volcanoes, both on land and undersea, generate about 200 million tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) annually, while our automotive and industrial activities cause some 24 billion tons of CO2 emissions every year worldwide. Despite the arguments to the contrary, the facts speak for themselves: Greenhouse gas emissions from volcanoes comprise less than one percent of those generated by todays human endeavors.

The title of this Forum Page is "JUST Joking" - Why are we arguing whether the posts in this section are factual ie never let the facts get in the way of a good story.

No Riposte in these fora (forums) has a snowball's chance in Hell of persuading others to change ingrained views - Let the jokes stand on their humour or clever use of presenting "Alternate Facts".

So you think it's OK for someone to lie about you and then call you an idiot on the basis of that lie? Is that your idea of a joke?

If you really want to see appropriate ways to lampoon a public figure, then read The Borowitz Report.

"SATIRE" The Borowitz Report has always been identified as satire in the past, the labeling was less conspicuous. Despite recent calls on Facebook to fix the way fake news is able to spread on its platform, the social network has yet to unveil any changes.

The trick, was figuring out the right balance between making it clear that The Borowitz Report is not true, and not spoiling the joke. After all, Borowitzs thing is kind of writing jokes that are a twist on the real news they closely resemble.

If someone made a meme but removed the picture of our favourite Swedish Doom Goblin and replaced it with anyone else, lets say a male with a graduation hat or even a busty female the joke would still be the same.

It is a good joke Possum, you should not have to justify your post.
This Jokes section is attracting the same people who seem determine to take the humour out of many jokes in their personal pursuit to display their own social view.

Folks,

It is a Jokes Section, let it be what it was designed to be.

Rob thanks for jogging my memory when you said Doom Goblin. She kinda reminds me of those furry characters in the old movie GREMLINS. I hope nobody gets her wet!
