If all cars were electric ... and were caught up in a three hour traffic jam... dead batteries! Then what?
Not to mention, that there is virtually no heating in an electric vehicle.
And if you get stuck on the road all night, no battery, no heating, no windshield wipers, no radio, no GPS (all these drain the batteries) !!!
You can try calling 911 to bring women and children to safety!
But they cannot come to help you since all roads are blocked and the socialist green weenies will probably require all police cars to be electric also (if we still have police departments then) !!!
And when the roads become unblocked no one can move! Their batteries are dead.
How do you charge the thousands of cars in the traffic jam? (That is a business I think Id like to look into. Drones to deliver heavy batteries and someone to remove and install.)
Same problem during summer vacation departures with miles of traffic jams.
There is virtually NO air conditioning in an electric vehicle. It would drain your batteries quickly.
No socialist bent reporter talks about this of course!
You cant even call in horses to rescue you.
Wouldnt it be easier to just get rid of the socialist politicians who are trying to help Chinas economy?
Don't bother calling 911 if it happens to you. Try 000!
I had wondered about air conditioning facilities in electric vehicles - how would they cope with an Australian summer? In all the reviews and articles about electric vehicles I have read I haven't seen one mention of air conditioning or heating. Presume they would be unsuitable for places like Darwin.

PS: Why is this in the joking section?

I was trying to avoid the G.........s, and didnt do a fact check either. But cannot still understand how knocking down power plants to build batteries to charge batteries makes much sense,
and when the wind dont blow, or as in Melb yesterday blows too bloody hard, or the sun dont shine, how does the world go round.
PS, still lots of houses in Melb without power, cant buy petrol for the 2am gen set, because no power, no atm, no cash, because " you dont need cash anymore"
Yep agree with Long Weekend totally this is definitely no joke - I am the first to admit that I hadn't considered these problems because I haven't any intention of going to electric vehicles. Although the original document was in all likelyhood first posted in USA, the scenario would certainly cause problems here in Australia

I doubt it was written to express a real concern at a possible outcome of electric vehicles. Reading it shows it was probably written as a comment against the Democrats, and more socialist politics.
Heavy on rhetoric and light on factual information or proof.
Anyway, as gdayjr says, a bit irrelevant here, and probably in the right section in my opinion.

Maybe not caught in snow, but there seems to be floods in parts of Australia that can cause traffic hold ups. And bush fires can stop traffic for many hours or days.
Another thought. How about electric vehicles driving several hours at night on country roads with lights on high beam? So far tests have all been in daylight - one by the NRMA did a tour around the state, but stayed overnight in motels while the batteries recharged.
Looks like I'll be sticking with my 2014 Ford Ranger for a few more years yet. In 2019 we towed our van across to Perth and back, I'd like to see an electric vehicle do that, even not towing anything!
I would think that EVs would be best suited for city use. It might be instructive to see how Norway deals with EV related problems. They have the largest EV take-up.

Some out of left field comments appearing. Have you ever tried travelling north from Sydney on a long weekend, traffic in total gridlock. Making comparisons between Aus and small European countries has no credibility. Maybe someone will come up with a "beam me up Scotty" system to rescue stranded motorists.
If you want more humour consider the self drive car scenarios, we cannot maintain a reliable cellular phone network let alone keep a vehicle tracking and navigation system functional.
