Mike, that is what I had done, then somehow sneaky "edge" got back, but lucky I still had the Foxit short cut and declared it to be the preferred option, I hope. Thanks
I run Windows 10 and am still using Adobe Acrobat Reader DC without any problems., never use Edge, Firefox has been my browser of choice for many years.
If you try to download a pdf whilst inside Edge then it may well use Acrobat to open it and you'll need to change that in the Edge options but Edge should not interfere with the Windows default application for PDFs.

Microsoft is an invasive disease and I hate Windows 10 too.
I was forced to upgrade to 10 from 7 Pro due to needing to run programs no longer supported on 7, and have been regretting it ever since.
So pleased with all the help here, and further pleased that we have " digressed so much" from original post. Keeping up a fine tradition. Where is the Popcorn Dougwe?

I certainly don't feel that way, I upgraded from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 shortly after it's release in 2015, whilst, as with any new operating system, it took a while to famililiarise myself with the changes, it now works flawlessly, I had a few hiccups along the way, nothing that wasn't easily overcome.
As I said earlier, I don't use MS Edge, I switched to Firefox from Win Explorer sometime around 2005 and have seen no reason to change.
Be aware that Edge is now Chrome based. It's a different beast than Microsoft's original in-house version. I found that out after an upgrade trashed my extensions and user scripts.
