I have just joined the forum because I think we can just about class ourselves as 'GREY NOMADS". We are not complete newbies having started off in tents and roof tops way back when (80's). In the early 2000's we relocated to the UK with the intention of staying for 6 months. Twelve years later we came back, that was about four years ago. While we were there we owned both a motorhome and a caravan and struggled with the pros and cons of each as I'm sure many of you have. On our return we bought a very nice (new) Jurgens caravan, mainly because we already had a suitable tow vehicle (Toyota FJ Cruiser). (Probably the wrong reason to buy).
It is only my wife and I and a couple of mini schnauzers and the caravan didn't really do it for us as we are aiming to do "the loop". We traded the caravan in and are now the happy and proud owners of a 2013 Avida Longreach motorhome. It is the most impressive, comfortable and well appointed thing I have ever seen. The only problem is that I can't drive it as it requires an MR license. So here I am at 73 with my head stuck in the rule book to pass my theory test and then go on to my practical. I'm not too concerned, I mean how hard can it be?
Welcome to the gang Not Dun Roamin, enjoy here and out in the playground.
The hardest thing might be the medical and if nothing wrong that won't be a problem.
The Longreach is a very impressive home on wheels fore sure. I have met a few people on my travels with one and every one of them love them. I even met a lady on her own travelling around OZ in one. She arrived and reversed in to a spot like it was a mini minor. I would say she was in her 60's. Nice lady and liked to keep to herself.

Hi, both my wife and I got our MR license about the same age, just go with a suitable driving school, they organize training and test and lt goes very smoothly. We both got MR without problems. Just do it, no time to waste
