I dont know how you would do this, but suggest posting in the technical section as few people visit here, and there are a number of members with D Max who may be able to guide you.

Aside from cleaning, running the cable should not be an issue. Use a piece of stiff wire and pass this from the rear up under the console and out at the front. You may need to do this to one side to dodge the gear change mechanism etc. Once that is done, tie the cable onto the draw wire and pull back through.
