mattresses - Clues on upgrades or toppers

Hi I am new to caravanning having just purchased my beautiful Australis - Lindeman van second hand. I want to upgrade the Island Bed mattress, it has the cormers rounded. I am after advice as to which maker to go to and /or I have read a lot about buying a topper for better results. Can the forum please give me some advice.

Regards Tim

Welcome to the gang Tim, enjoy here and out in the playground.

I have a mate who goes by the name of Google and would probably know where. Maybe just ask him about caravan mattresses in what every area you are. The other thing would be check with a local caravan accessory place. OR You could also do a search in the thick blue line above by typing in 'caravan mattress'.

Keep Safe on the roads and out there.

Hi and welcome.

Is there anything wrong with the mattress that it needs replacing? If it's not grotty or sagging or something that needs replacing, or if you just don't find it comfortable, I'd look into toppers. Although toppers aren't dirt cheap, they are a lot cheaper than a new mattress. I got a topper for my bed at home after I got out of hospital and my formerly comfortable mattress suddenly seemed too hard and pokey. I've just bought another, with a view to moving one out to my new (secondhand) caravan because the foam mattresses/seats are very firm and I need some padding.

What I've found out is that a single mattress overlay is wider than the single beds in my van and that you can cut latex (my older topper is latex). Also, Clark Rubber will cut stuff to fit particular dimensions. You might want to ask them what they have in the way of toppers that they can cut to size, or consider a latex topper and cut it down yourself. The island bed might not be a standard size otherwise than just the corners.

(You might want to ask for this to be transferred to the general forum, seeing as it's a specific question.)
