Interesting article and true of current technology. The CSIRO here have been working on this for some time to overcome the known issues with hydrogen under current technology. What they are doing is showing promise so we shall see.

It looks like Hyundai, is the first Hydrogen car, to be certified for Australia

It will use a Hydrogen Fuel Cell to generate electricity, to charge the electric battery pack, which drives the electric motor

Not sure if this will take off, as I believe that "plug in" electric cars, will be coming down in price in about three years, according to Tesla

"An Australian tech startup has revealed ambitious plans to not only restart local vehicle production on local soil, but its diverse line-up of vehicles will be exclusively powered by hydrogen fuel cells, as well as battery and supercapacitor power storage."

The fuel cell type is the way that hydrogen vehicles seem to be going. Toyota and Honda have had them in production for some time and are already for sale in the USA. The technology is already here. It's the supply issues that need sorting. My belief is that it is the way of the future for long distance haulage including towing, as electric vehicle range degrades badly when you hook something on the back. That may change as battery technology gets better, but currently hydrogen as hows promise. If the CSIRO are onto the right track the supply issues could be solved.
