Had few failures over the years . Mainly due to pushing engineering limits . The block was split when boost control pipe came off .  Data log showed 22lb . Have MAP, boost control on seperate lines now . Plus overboost function . Better fail

safe these days . That was over 20years ago .

!

never split a engine blocl like that but have destroyed a few gun and rifle barrels by pushing the limits when reloading.
also blew the face off a d9 cat dozer blade, me and another guy had spent all night refacing the blade, he was finishing off about the last 5 inches when the internal pressure got to much and torn the face open like a tin can.
all these events mode very loud noises
cheers

Just as well I pack some 12mm cable ties! Although probably not enough.

I've done a few, used hose clamps to hold an undercarriage down for a flight in a Cessna 421 from Horsham to Moorabin. Used a 44 gallon drum as a fuel tank to fly an aircraft out of the bush. Had a Beech baron with a busted elevator trim cable, couldn't repair it, because it had been modified, ran the cable down the inside of the fuse between the seats and mounted on a pulley bolted on the main spar, the pilot had to pull or push the cable to make it work we flew that home. Have strapped a slightly bent fuselage up with steel bracing, to fly it home, I sat in on the flight home and watched the rear for movement. Done more, but my days of flight are over.

Bush mechanics is certainly an art form. Don't always have all the right tools or parts.
