Diesel Caravan Heaters

I am amazed at the number of people who bring me their el-cheapo $200 diesel heater for repair when it stops working soon after purchase.  Only yesterday I had a bloke from Parkes who needed spare parts for a month-old heater and for which there was no warranty.  A $200 heater and a $1,500 heater look much the same, but there is a quantum difference in quality of materials, assembly and function.  Unfortunately, because these cheap "clones" from several Chinese factories have parts which are similar, I have found that most are not interchangeable, particularly for safety sake.  So, if parts are not available or don't fit, and no warranty, you may as well throw the heater away.

As a long time importer of heaters, spare parts and repairs, if you see these heaters on Ebay, I would suggest that you steer clear of these.  You get what you pay for and you don't need the hassle.

John.

Well said John. I fully concur. If you buy cheap Chinese stuff you take a risk with safety because there is no quality. Unfortunately they flood the market with crap and the more expensive units dont sell and the other business goes bust. I certainly think it is about time all Aussies made a pact to only buy quality. Not Chinese junk.

Conversely, many people are having a good run with cheap heaters and if you are handy it is not a big drama to buy another and swap them over.
You can buy a lot of $200 ones for the cost of a $1500 one.
Us? We have a German one, it cost about $1,000 (I have never seen a $1,500 one confuse), but even those don't last forever before needing serious attention.
Cheers,
Peter

Welcome to the gang John, enjoy here and out in the playground.

Don't make it a one post and never see you again as this a good place to hang out, with mostly good helpful people.

Me, I don't have a diesel heater but do have a Truma Gas Heater fitted to my aluminium teepee and it keeps me nice and warm when needed and doesn't cost an arm and leg to run. I believe the diesel heaters are not fuel hungry either.

Keep safe out there.

A warm welcome from me also, JV

At the moment, I do not have a built in heater, in my RV

Not knowing what the future new normal will be but...
If it restricts the migration of heading into the warmer climates, then I assume a lot of us will be looking at, some sort of heating in the cooler months

Hope that you can stick around, on the forum
