This morning in VIC 19 new cases were reported. All at the same meatwork factory and most were asymptomatic. The virus is still out there and in some cases you wouldn't know you have it because you're asymptomatic. The only time you will find out is if someone in your network gets sick and shows symptoms. Possibly an elderly person or a person with an immune deficiency. By then you and anyone else you've infected would have spread the virus to numerous others. Some may die! Wouldn't you want to warn anyone that you've been in contact with? Isn't that your moral duty to do so? If you don't keep track of all your contacts in the prescribed 21 day period, how are you going to do it? This app is only a tool. If you don't want to use it, fine, but how are you going to warn others when you turn out to be infected? You can claim that you don't socialise and don't meet other people etc. But 19 cases in one place! Let that sink in. That's how easy the virus spreads.

What is a greater concern is this place, they have failed in their due diligance by not having a protection and testing process in place to protect the workers and the product they process. In a state where the unions dictate to the government, the unions have failed their job, not disimler to health services union and owners of the Penrith nursing home.

One wonders if this facility processes meat for the export market and or the local market, we have heard no information of the virus possibility of contaminating the meat in the facility.

people who object to the app on privacy issues probably put more info out on this form an things like face book than what will be given up on this new app.
i have blue tooth connected in the tug. do i turn it off every time i get out ? no .

are they tracking me ? no idea
am i concerned ?
if THEY wanted to find me there are other ways to track where i've been .

I dont object to the app based on privacy issues, as the government has ample opportunity to track me by my metadata, my issue is revelence, where I am my daily contact is with known people all be it with social distancing, if we do go to town its to do some shopping, then the longest and closest contact is with the checkout operator.
Its pointless to promote an app where its success is dependant on people who have tested positve and are on the data base not remaining in isolation, the promotion of the app is a panacea to make those who are scared feel safe, reality is you are highly unlikely to come in contact with anyone with covid 19 and that is dependant that they have been tested and carry a phone with the app active.
The only reason I dont carry a phone is, I dont need one there are other devices that cover our communication neeeds.

might suit your situation or if you live in a bubble but as people start to move about this information may be relevant when an outbreak occurs they can notify people who may be at risk to quickly to control it.

Interesting article.

This is an issue I pointed out earlier.

It's probably near impossible to get distance sorted out for Bluetooth & if collecting every contact from 1 second upwards & contacts on the other side of walls. The data collected will be overwhelming & meaningless.

From the Guardian:

Health officials have yet to access the data because the federal government needs to get the states and territories to sign a memorandum of understanding to ensure they abide by the privacy rules around the use of the data for contact tracing. It is expected these MoUs will be in place by 8 May.

Reading the article I am surprised that more than 50% of smartphones are iphones.

I think the app is only one part of the solution, those without a phone are not able to participate obviously.

This app doesn't warn people with app that a Covid infection is near you.

The way it works is... a healthy person who has the app on his phone... gets symptoms, they get tested & it's positive. The authorities check their phone app to see who they were near in the past few days.

The people who were close are contacted and the people get tested.

The app doesn't have names or addresses or even locations, it has stuff all information about people, they only want phone numbers in order to contact possible clusters or potential infections.

It's a good thing for the country, anything to help us get out of this economic disaster and stop the deaths.

Having worked in IT for 40 years I thought I'd have a look at this open source based app.

I'll simply make one comment, "I'm from the tax office and I'm here to help you".

Not on your nelly will I be installing this app on my smart phone

I downloaded the app and installed it. Then heard that the tax office had been hacked.

And the Govt says it will be safe and cannot be hacked...... RIIIIIIIGHT

it would appear the facility has a connection to china an a container of meat was sent to china.

This thread was raised over a year ago, and the subject was the COVIDsafe app, which worked when you were in proximity to a another person who also had it. That is no longer being promoted and we have now learned it only takes seconds to become infected, particularly with the latest more infectious strain.

That is quite different from the state based register system for recording what establishments you have visited.
