One thing I don't get , the viruses are very smart , but why do they commit suicide , they attack a body , the body will die and get buried and then the virus will die to ? Cheers
......, but why do they commit suicide , they attack a body , the body will die and get buried and then the virus will die.....
Viruses do not commit suicide. The individual virus cells that replicated in the body die, the virus lives on when it replicates in another host. Army ants and Monarch Butterflies are example of organisms that continue the species as individual animals die and new ones emerge. Viruses are very smart if you see them as an example of evolution/survival of the fittest. The more virulent and then more quickly it will kill a host, the more infectious it is. Viruses that kill slowly are less virulent and they have more time to find a new host to infect and so continue the existence of the organism.

Semi-permanent state of being Recreationally Outraged as a defence against boredom during lockdown.
I will be much better off, over reacting, than under reacting
I will assume that the good Doctor made the video, long before the world ran out of ventilators/PPE for the health workers/temporary and mobile morgues/60,428 deaths etc
In Vic alone, this year we already have 73+ road deaths, which also means that we have a quite a number of hospital admissions. Some, no doubt, critical.
Yes it is all about perspective ! If you were told that you could save your life by staying at home for some time and putting up with crap on the box then it seems an easy choice to me. I know that some thoughts are "dont necessarily need to stay at home" but as has been seen already people just then spread it around by going out. The virus has no means of moving around except by the people hosts moving around. Any thinking person could see that. And as you can be a carrier before you show ANY symptoms how do you know you do not have it. Look at the backpackers and their hot spots ! Anybody want to get on the beach with them ?? They are young and possibly will recover OK but I am am old and may not be so lucky.
Look at the good ol' US of A lead by an idiot ignoring the advice from his experts. I am glad I do not live there and it will get much worse soon. I am sorry for them.
Show common sense and stay at home. Get the list of jobs out and go for it !

Yes. The restrictions that we all face are possibly an over-reaction. However, I am content to stay home and follow the best available advice about physical distancing, hand washing, etc. until the all clear is given. I am in the aged vulnerable group and would like to survive a bit longer to see my grandchildren grow up into adulthood. This is not the time to ignore the best intentions of medical experts who may be struggling with limited information. Road trauma and diseases other than Covid-19 don't go on holiday while one disease gets the news media attention, but the restrictions will put a damper on the the more usual causes of death and trauma for the duration of the restrictions.
For those who think it is all an over reaction, take a look at this web site, and delve into some of the detail. www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/
Covid19 seems to be up to 3 times as infectious as the common seasonal flue.
Of those who get it, about 30 per 1,000 die. Of those who get seasonal flue, 1 per 1,000 die. Of those who are hospitalised about 15% die.
To reduce deaths it is pretty clear that we need to keep the infection rate low enough so that the hospitals can manage.
Cheers,
Peter
I have been asking what the true picture of Covid19 infection rate, but experts, media and governments only tell the populace half the picture it easy to scaremonger people if you only tell them the the cumulative number of the those infected and highlight the deaths, also harp on about what's happening in other countries.
Leaving out a key part of the puzzle to help keep us scared and under control, currently the Australian cumulative total infected is a bit over 5900 with 48 deaths, whilst each death is heart breaking for their families, but again it's easy to blame covid-19 for the death but was there a underlying medical problem.
The numbers by percentage of population is never really spoken about, but if you were told the true infection rate, then you would question some of the decisions made, here are the number as of yesterday, look closely and the number of people that have beaten the virus, and then subtract it for the 5900 cumulative total.
New South Wales: 2,686
Victoria: 1,191
Queensland: 934
Western Australia: 470
South Australia: 411
Australian Capital Territory: 97
Tasmania: 89
Northern Territory: 28
TOTAL CASES: 5,906
RECOVERED: 2,439
DEAD: 48
You want numbers?
Australia has done well, thanks to the early imposition and good compliance with social distancing, but if people think it is an over reaction, we could easily emulate some of those other countries that are not doing so well.
Remember also that this virus will do better in winter. Who wants to get the flue PLUS Covid19 together?
Deaths per 1 million population (so far)....
Australia 2
Switzerland 88
Netherlands 109
Belgium 141
Spain 285
USA is just 33 per million, but had 1,255 new deaths yesterday (that is 5 deaths per million population in one day). It is growing very fast.
Don't get complacent.
Cheers,
Peter
People complain we have gone overboard with restrictions & would probably be the same people who would complain if we had the mortality rate of other countries!
You can't win!
Personally I would rather we have restrictions & still have all our doctors & nurses! They seem to agree & since we can't replace them in a hurry we would be stuffed!
The longer we can spread this out the better we will be prepared for future cases.

They may have more draconian ways of dealing with those who have contracted the virus.
While I personally believe our leaders should have shut us down earlier, we should all be grateful of how it appears to be panning out in Aus. if related to current figures.
Unfortunately in any situation there are some who flaunt the rules due to their own ignorance and from what I have seen some grey Nomads who decided to continue on their annual migration north are some of the worst.
Stay at home or stay put, it is easy to understand.

Governments and media are lying to us all.
This modeling BS is as accurate as the pollsters at the last election, yes I'm a conspiracy theorist, daily figures are bloated, everything is geared to scare you, thus truth is the first victim when you want to control the population.
'Using photos posted online, social media sleuths have estimated that Wuhan funeral homes have returned 3,500 urns a day since March 23. That would imply a death toll in Wuhan of about 42,000 - or 16 times the official number. Another widely shared calculation from Radio Free Asia, based on Wuhan's 84 furnaces running nonstop and each cremation taking an hour, put the death toll at 46,800.'
'Wuhanresidents say the activities belie the official statistics. "It can't be right . . . because the incinerators have been working round the clock, so how can so few people have died?" a man identified only by his surname, Zhang, told RFA.'

The poor decisions by government during this event will come home to roost when the country gets back to some normallity. Bankruptacies, Suicides, unemployment, business failures will see even a greater drain on the government purse.
All could have been avoided if you returned to australia or tested positive to Covid19, you were placed in a secure facility until you were cleared of infection.
I dont listen read or care whats occuring overseas, but the kneejerk decisions here will be a long lasting problem.
have a look at the "just beside myself" contribution ... an example of folk reacting without thinking or compassion to a grey nomad in obvious distress.
