Off Grid Air Conditioner

Been wondering for ages why they say it can't be done. Does anyone have thoughts on this demonstrated solution. If you scroll to the bottom of the page on this link the guy demos it.

Hi Christine (Heeler)

I am not a techi, but both of the links you put up, concern American voltage, which is approximately half of ours

The first link mentioned a 2000 watt genset, while the second link mentioned a larger 2500 watt genset, not being able to start an aircontioner

My Honda 2000 watt genset, has no problem running my Coleman Mach airconditioner, in my motorhome

I have no idea if this soft start piece of equipment is, made for Australian voltage

Thanks for that Tony,

I'm thinking it was okay for Australia because it is sold here too.

All I'm looking for is a way to run an air con off grid via solar power and the associated equipment.

I'm still learning, actually I'm  a real beginner but I'll get there.

You sound like you have it set up pretty well. I'm going to go with what you have named and I am very grateful for the mention.

Sincerely

Christine Villa JP

Hey Tony and Bev,

Just looking at your rig, what is it and where did you buy it?

I've got my eye on the Sunliner Pinto...... but I'm indecicive as to downsizing further to the Sunliner Rialta Campervan

https://www.sunliner.com.au/motorhomes/pinto

https://www.sunliner.com.au/campervans/rialta

Two different lifestyles here. One a little more stealth than the other..... but......so much less room. I've got excellent poles and a good strong tarp if I decide on the camper-van.

Did you ever have smaller to start with or did you go for the larger first off?

Hi Christine (Heeler)
Opps, forgetting me manners, welcome to the forum, (just noticed this was in the introduction part of the forum)

You have asked
Just looking at your rig, what is it and where did you buy it?
It is a 2006 Fiat Conquest, 2.8 diesel engine, 5 speed manual gearbox, 244 chassis, with a Jayco Conquest FD 22 2, built behind it
I purchased it privately in 2014, with a genuine 30,000 kilometres on the clock, for $60,000

I've got my eye on the Sunliner Pinto...... but I'm indecicive as to downsizing further to the Sunliner Rialta Campervan
I only have experience with two types of motorhome
The one I own, and the one which an older brother owns, which is a Ford Transit motorhome, 2.5 litre engine, 6 speed manual gearbox, with a Winnebago built onto the chassis

In my opinion/experience, the Ford is far, far, better than the Fiat, for driving ability, also the Fiat spare parts are very few, and far between
The Winnebago, is built much more robust, than the Jayco Conquest

Did you ever have smaller to start with or did you go for the larger first off?
Use to have a caravan, this is my only motorhome, wife wanted something where the cat could walk to the cab, so it would not be lonely, while travelling
After six months of looking, within a 200 kilometre range, this motorhome was within my budget

My Honda 2000 watt genset, has no problem running my Coleman Mach airconditioner, in my motorhome
You sound like you have it set up pretty well. I'm going to go with what you have named and I am very grateful for the mention

I have read on this forum, that other types of airconditioners, can not be run with my genset
The consensus seems to be, that a person should go to a genset shop, and ask for a demo, to make sure their genset will run your airconditioner

Your original question concerned off grid airconditioners

As I am not a techi, perhaps if you copy and paste your question, into the techi part of the forum, you will get a better response

I hope that whatever you decide to purchase, that there are many happy road trips, ahead of you

There is a good series called "Trip in a Van" on YouTube. 3 of the short videos show setting up an off the grid van with a Dometic soft start air conditioning which uses less current at startup. https://youtu.be/lfyVkUTv4ok https://youtu.be/aaL5XdaQ7bM https://youtu.be/19v1aVzTDoQ You would need large capacity Lithium Batteries and quite a few solar panels but it is now possible to run your a/c off grid for quite a few hours per day.
