Hey all, thanks for having me aboard.

I am very new to the road tripping across the country, 2 years ago i drove from (on my own) south east Qld down to NSW Vic and SA and back again over 8 weeks and enjoyed it alot only had a 4cyc camry on that trip, got to see real snow, went and seen Wallace Hut in Vic there was about 2 inches of snow, it was a magic sight.

I am now planning a better trip and will be buying a 4x4 to setup to live from wile i am on my aimless travels around the country side, part of my trip will be visiting the gold fields and trying my luck, i plan to head south again and work my back to SEQ tinker with 4x4 then head to Darwin.

So what better place to join for advice, but be warned i am starting from word go and i will have many Q's to setup the 4x4 i dont even have as yet, i am saving and doing a big clean out to save up as much as i can by xmas then sell what i have and get the 4x4 and start fitting out, 1st thing will be solar and battery setup to run the fridge.

I am single and i rent so i will be packing up my gear and putting in storage for 6 months wile i travel, my  lease is up in April next year so have all this time to bring it all tougher.

Cheers Darren...

Five months is not a lot of time to put it all together - What are you considering as a vehicle, Do you really need a 4X4? A Utility with canopy?, a smaller SUV or large Fourbie such as Pajero, Patrol or Landcruiser? Are you considering a campertrailer or MiniPod camper to tow? Fridge will need more than a solar panel, do you really need it? I have seen many canopies from utes fitted to normal trailer which result in a mini van effect.
Advise you initial considered wish list and come back sound out your ideas.

Yes i know it is not much time to put thing tougher, but i will work it out.

Have been looking at a Toyota or a Nissan, i will take back seats out and put in a matres, i want to b able to go fossick where most cars cant go to a point.

Yes i will need a fridge as i will be spending at least a week where i stop each time, want to b able to setup and not have to worry about keeping things cold, i have no time fame when i go on this trip so may end up longer at some placers, i will b using deep cycle batts and i have a back up genny already the fridge will b a waeco 35lt...

Welcome to the gang Darren, enjoy here and out in the playground.

Sounds like you sort of know what you want in a way so just read all the different sections of the forum and ask any questions in the appropriate sections. That way it makes it easier to find later and for others that might be looking for info down the track.

I have been out in the playground now for 7 years, 5 full time and I can say you are in for a treat and I tell you that for free.

Keep Safe on the roads and out there.
