J&J newbies, prepping

we are john and jackie.  sometime this year we will be free and travelling.  we have a merc sprinter that we converted, but have decided that it is not big enough.  so, we decided to use it as a trip tow/support vehicle to carry loads of stores, water etc, and tow a poptop as accommodation.  this has the advantage that if we are in a park, we don't have to decamp to go shopping or sightseeing, though we hope to mostly freecamp, or cheapcamp. another advantage is we don't have clutter in the way, chairs, bbq table etc.  in our merc we have 400w solar and 2kw inverter, batts,222 ltr fridge freezer, and i hope to add another 400w to the caravan and feed it back to the van, and feed 240v back to the caravan (i know what i am doing, btw) which will keep everything running when off the grid.  the merc tows very well, and is quite economic even when towing, though aerodynamics might be odd.  as yet we have no itinerary, as the set off time is not decided, as is the season.  we are on the eyre peninsular , and will probably go west to ceduna and maybe beyond, bacxk to Pt Agusta, flinders ranges, maybe a desert crossing to birdsville if the time is right for the races, or south the Yorke peninsular, then coastal to nsw and qld.  no time schedule though there maybe a couple of events we want to be near at the right time, supercars and motogp for instance.  if we like it we will hang around, if not move on..... if we are skint, hang around, if not.....  no doubt we will have many questions to ask.  cheers  J&J

Welcome to the gang John and Jackie, enjoy here and out in the playground.

Sounds a plan you have there so I hope it all goes well for you both. It's a great life out here and I tell you that for free.

G'day John and Jackie (aka Piratesgold) and welcome to the forum.  Don't forget to try the two ongoing games here - 'Who is This' in the 'I Digress' section and 'Pick this Place' in the 'General' Section - a great source to find new places to visit.

Sounds like a great plan so enjoy it out there :)

Sounds like everything has been well thought out

Hope that when you do become free and start traveling, that there are many happy road trips ahead for both of you
