Old members starting out again

G'day all - we're Wayne and Kath and while we've been around a little - this is likely to be our first big lap. We have a 2005 Prado and a 2004 Jayco Expander and will be leaving Perth mid to late Feb for all points east. We'll be taking our time to get there, but Greens is on the list for a stop-over while we tour around mid / northern Victoria.

What is the deal at Greens now - do I need to book or is it still free camping anywhere you please?

Welcome back to the gang Wayne and Kath, enjoy here and out in the playground.

As for GreenS Lake, no bookings needed as it is 'freedom' camping at it's best, well sometimes best. Heaps of space along lakeside drive and up around trees etc. When looking at the launching ramp the area to the right is probably the most popular but to the left is good too, however, to the left can get very water logged and even 4x4's have trouble getting out after HEAVY rains as it actually floods in a large section of it. Don't get too excited though cos the right hand side can get boggy as well but usually doesn't flood. The place can be very dusty in dry weather but you get used to it and just keep windows on that side of van closed. The best thing is the water is just there in front of you and is fresh water so really nice to take a dip. The area is well known for being windy, very windy sometimes so keep an eye on ya awning if out.

There are a few yobbo's get there but they are nearly everywhere anyway. Thankfully the big yobbo type groups get each end so really not too much bother. It can get noisy at night with younger ones and their so called music but hey, you take the good with the bad and there are more good's at GreenS than bad's so all good I spose. Weekdays are good for Grey Nomads etc and weekends get busy with boats etc. Try to avoid long weekends and Easter if you can, busy, busy, busy.

If you put 'Greens Lake' (Corop) into your GPS or Google maps it will take you right to the launching ramp.

Enjoy your stay there and Keep Safe on the roads and out there.

Hi Doug - and thanks for all the info, I'll put it to good use. I already have a GPS point for the boat ramp and I'll have no problem following the purple road (Garmin nuvi) to get there.

I had a talk with Kath today and it looks like we'll be heading off from here about 20th Feb, so we should be around Greens sometime early March. I have a date with all the nurses in my local hospital on the 14th (unfortunately... with a doctor as well) and also have to see my own Doctor before we can get away - it seems I have a very photogenic bum .

Hopefully any storms in the area will have passed by and there will be mild days with gentle zephyrs to keep the air moving. It'll be great to arrive and chill out for a while .

G'day Wayne and Kath (aka Red Roo) and welcome to the forum.  Don't forget to try the two ongoing games here - 'Who is This' in the 'I Digress' section and 'Pick this Place' in the 'General' Section - a great source to find new places to visit.  Sounds like you know what you are doing!

Thanks Pete - I (we) don't usually play forum games but I'll keep these in mind. We have been around just a little so 'Pick this Place' may be fun once we get on the road.
