hi everyone as a local gadgetman I enjoy helping others technically if possible. My rigs have been varied with a 2007 Northstar on a 2007 Hilux dual cab ute. Sold this an purchased 2003 Mercedes Sprinter 7m length. Found this a bit big so downsized to an ex ambulance 2012 6m Sprinter with Safari fitout a great vehicle size wise. Wanted to do a bit more off road so purchased a new 2017 Hilux SR5 extra cab and a second hand Palomino SS550. Although a great slide on it proved a bit on the heavy side even with the Hilux getting a 400gvm upgrade. Sold that and had a little henty slide on built in Penguin by Island Campers and only weighs in at about 350kgs. Only small but has gas heater, gas hot water, fridge, stove, double bed and ext shower and awning! What more do you need?, cheers John (gadgetman)

Welcome to the gang Gadgetman, enjoy here and out in the playground.

Sounds like you have had a variety of rigs and the one in the pic looks nice and compact and comfy. I hope you don't mind me saying but it looks like quite a overhang on the backside, um, rear side of the rear axle. How's the weight in that area? I'm sure it's fine as you sound like you know what you are doing. Well done.

Keep Safe on the roads and out there.

Hi Doug,
Yes did a bit of research on weights and overhang when I had the Palomino. My Hilux had the Pedders 400gvm upgrade with extra leaf spring and stronger shockers bringing it from 3050gvm to 3450kgs. The Little Henty dry weight is 300k*s and using the overhang rule I am allowed 2550 and I have 2450 so a bit to spare. Practically no weight in the rear of camper with only pantry and sink on the overhang with all the water, storage and bed at the front. A great little unit very aerodynamic and uses same fuel of around 10.5 l per 100 with it on or off.
Cheers John.

G'day John aka The Gadgetman and welcome to the forum.  Don't forget to try the two ongoing games here - 'Who is This' in the 'I Digress' section and 'Pick this Place' in the 'General' Section - a great source to find new places to visit.   Looks like a nice rig and sounds like you know what you are doing!  Happy Christmas biggrin
