Phone Update, Improved Reception.

We've been researching mobile phones for the past few months looking to update our 6 year old Samsung which struggles to get reception in the bush sometimes even though we're with Telstra.

This is one piece of our research:       https://www.canstarblue.com.au/phone/phones-for-regional-areas/

Even at home in suburbia we live in a ''black hole'' where our phone gets only one bar of reception.

A few days ago we updated to a Samsung S9 which is one of the ''blue tick'' recommended phones.

Wow! We're at home & now get three bars of reception along with a phone that charges twice as fast as our old one. eyepopping.gifeyepopping.gif

We feel like we've been living in the dark ages. laughing.giflaughing.gif

I recently bought the S9 as well DD, retiring my old S5 which slowed to a crawl some days. As I use the phone at work as well, speed was paramount.

Yet to test it out in the bush, so would be glad to hear you report back your findings.

Interesting indeed, thanks for the info.

I have been thinking of updating for a few months now but not sure. I am have been off contract now for 12 months and my Wifi device is out in two weeks time.

I have the Galaxy S6 and when I got it 3 years ago was told it was a 'blue tick' phone but have always had doubt as not good reception where my old Iphone4 did. I notice on your link the S6 is not listed so sort of proves it.

I have got around it all as my Wifi device has mostly had good reception and if hooked up to a antenna via patch lead get even better cover so out of chance I discovered I could do Wifi calling. I connect my S6 to the Wifi device via Bluetooth and make and receive calls that way. I have been doing it that way for nearly two years and have not noticed much if any data use. I have shared data between my phone and Wifi device.

My only problem with updating from my S6 to a S9 is if it is compatible with my Colorado in car My link system as a Iphone6 wasn't when tested a while back. If I can get parking in front of a Telstra shop they might come out and test it for me.

I'm working on all that now. Might even go for a drive tomorrow and test the theory.

We solved the reception problem by fitting a CEL-FI to the caravan.

We had a marked improvement with reception in more remote and country areas when we bit the bullet and got rid of our Samsung 6 phones and went to the IPhone 7s.

I hope the Samsung 9 is better than their 6 model as they were crap for phone reception. Our old IPhone 4s were far better than the Samsung and the Samsung had the blue tick so it was supposed to work. That is why we bought them.......I think that the blue tick status has been removed from their specification for the 6. Lets hope for DDs sake that does not happen to the 9.

If you only use these things in cities and regional centres then they work ok but country areas soon sorts out the crap.

You get what you pay for with phones.....

Like we posted originally our 6 year old Samsung was fine but on occasions it struggled in remote areas. We were still pretty happy with it.

Our home (60kms out of Melbourne) reception has gone from a permanent one bar with our old phone to three bars with the new S9 so we can confidently look forward to improved reception in the bush judging by that.
