Depends...
Mine are 80kg each :(
Good reason to use alloys., but I can't get them in the size/weight rating.
Cheers,
Peter

235/60R18 alloy rim 37kg. Have not weighed current size on the car. I weighed mine on the bathroom scales. It will be close enough, you could chuck on a few kg first then the wheel so you are not starting from zero which might have a touch more error.

Its raining up here Brisbane, that means I probably get wet taking my spare off to weigh it.

I did have a white sunraiser steel rim with a new 235x15 tyre on it handy so I weighed it and it come in at 39 kgs.

Not sure what alloy rim would weigh in comparison maybe a couple of kilos lighter.

Thanks everyone, not well enough to take spare off for weighing so thought "ask the forum folks". Wheel could be about the same as genset and box.

We are slowly getting the van back to running kit to be able to test all the practical and theoretical changes made over the last few years. Cousin Kerry mentioned having genset on back and shifting spare wheel. I wonder if spare wheel or genset will be easier on Eril's lap. biggrin First test trip is to have genset over the van axles to see if everything else gels.

Paul I think I would perfer to nurse the gen set.

Just to make it easier on the lady offer her a spronge pillow to place between gen and her lap..

I weighed my second spare wheel now with 255/60R18 tyres, alloy rim, it's 30kg. So with the previous size tyre it was 27kg.

Big differences in weight.

I'm a builder of very very lightweight caravans. My first van was 450kg tare. To achieve that low figure it had no brakes, hot water, etc etc. Wheels were investigated. A 10 inch boat wheel with light truck tyre was 8kg!! (see pic) A 13 inch wheel with tyre was 18kg.  multiply that by 3 and you have a saving of 30kg for 3 wheels.

Now I've gone to 12 inch wheels with my new build. see pic with spats

I don't have a tow bar but I have done further investigation on tow ball weight on my car. What I thought was correct at 250kg, has been up rated for Australia to 350kg! So if you find any fat left on your trailer to remove, ie the wheels themselves, you could stick it as a whole on the tow bar. As long as it doesn't stick out too far!

We pulled up for lunch at a great spot along the Murray and noticed that one of our van tyres was as flat as a tack. I was able to easily remove the spare tyre and swap same over.

But the problem then was... at my age (Late... late ..... seventies) ... the tyre was far to heavy for me lift and to fit back onto the rear of the van. Thankfully another vanner also pulled in for lunch and was only to willing to lend a hand.

There is always a helping hand on the beaten track.
