We are horrified and saddened by the tragic and untimely loss of Sisto. A true character, Sisto's friendliness and hospitality at the wonderful Pellegrinis Espresso Bar in Melbourne is legendary and he will be sorely missed by so many of us.
As ever, the politicians trot out their platitudes in condemnation of such evil acts - yet nothing changes...

It is a sad situation that the alledged perpetrator was apparently on Terrorist Watch by our law enforcement agencies.
I would have thought that if you earned the ability to be on such a list then you might be at least watched a lot more closely than the efforts they put in to watch this fellow.
I have personal views how the ones on this watch list SHOULD be handled but I will hold my tongue.

At least deported..
WE Aussies, should be deciding who comes and lives here. There some types of people that do NOT fit in with our long established and fought for values. Very poignant today.
The Port Arthur massacre of 2829 April 1996 was a mass shooting in which 35 people were killed and 23 wounded in Port Arthur, Tasmania. The murderer, Martin Bryant, had a subnormal IQ and intellectual disabilities. He pleaded guilty for the incident and was given 35 life sentences without possibility of parole. Wikipedia. ............................ He was not motivated by beliefs which are not congruent to our way of life in Aus.
That is probably the extent of how our country can issue punishment however when we as a country have a choice as to who we bring in and who we let stay here... if in doubt, ACT to fix the situation, dont wait until something happens. Unfortunately our immigration policy is based on Vote Buying.

All these types of events were very rare when I was growing up , what has changed ? I know what it is but cant say it for fear of reprisal from minority groups , that in itself is sad that in this day and age we cant truly say what we think . Schools not celebrating easter / father christmas or a plethora of other things , baa baa " what " sheep ! Noddy and Big ears gay ! . I note that adverts on the tv have more and more mixed races in them as advertisers don't want to be deemed racist by not including them . If there is one thing that was better in the "old days " it was the level of violence in our everyday lives

As you say, our freedom of speech is of a bygone era. Today's ridiculous PC society only serves the interests of minority groups and the consequences are out of control.

eremember the bloke than done the most daaage in recent history was Australian, born and bred remember port arther cheers blaze
There is no doubt that we have plenty of our own homegrown issues here in Australia to sort out but IMHO we need to be careful about adding to it by importing everyone else's problems. We can show compassion and help out those who need a hand without automatically becoming a life raft for anyone in the world who has a problem. Sure we can allow people to move here but lets make sure that we vet them thouroughly and not just take them because we have some quota. It's funny that the people who we are the most likely to hold in detention and send home for sinning are from that very threatening country just over the ditch who are supposed to be our best mates.

Thanks all, for your input, however I think I will close this now. Just a quick reminder that we do not allow political discussions, as in our experience, this always leads to bad feelings.
