I am taking a break from travelling for a bit and here on Kangaroo Island exploring in the wonderful sights here until the end of January 2019. Visited Stokes Bay yesterday and found a well kept secret. "You have to case the joint out and scan carefully as the action soon begins, people soon disappear, seemingly directly into the cliffs face. If you follow their foot tracks carefully through a dimly lit secret cave you come across the most amazing sight!!!' Gwynnie
I'll put a copy of your great photo in with my video record of that trip which took us from Brissy up the E coast to Hopevale, across to Karumba and then down through the centre heading south to end up with a few days on Kangaroo Is. (left the van at Victor Harbour) before heading home through western NSW. (6320 km in 3 1/2 months May to August 2001. Perhaps a bit fast).
You're welcome G ?? and yes this is a very beautiful part of the world. Did you get to visit Western River Cove just about 30 km along the North Coast road. If you did not get to it you missed another jewel in the KI crown! Gwynnie

We went across complements of a special cheap package of car ferry & a couple of nights at the Pub. All very unplanned & certainly not researched. Often they are the best bits.

The best time of the year to visit KI is in the Autumn/Summer months, between August and February! It does get rather hot over here in the summer, but as we're surrounded by water almost anywhere near the coast will always provide a sea breeze. Gwynnie

Thanks Lily2018 for your message...... The weather here this week has been very scary as the winds picked up to gale force, mainly on the coastal regions. The temperatures remain cooler than expected and taking in the chill factor, today we will be lucky to reach 18 degrees. The rain has been very welcomed as usually the summer is quite dry here with not much rain until about April next year. However the conditions will begin to improve soon and I will get out and about again when the winds drop. Hope all is good wherever you are! Hi Gwynnie just a quick question about visiting KI...would you be you better off leaving your van in storage at somewhere like Victor Harbour for a few days rather than taking it over on the ferry ? I read in an ealier post that Cupie had done that and for me it seems like it would be a cheaper option especially when you can buy short stay packages that include the ferry and accomodation ? Looks like a beautiful place and somewhere that we have always wanted to visit.
To answer your questions, bringing your van across is rather expensive and it depends on how long you intent to stay as a consideration of your decision making. Two day tour packages that include ferry, bus & accommodation are suffice if you are on a limited timeframe and do not mind getting shuffled around. But if you bring your caravan across and stay longer the camping fees are between $20- $31per nite at most camping locations. (Look under www.kangarooisland.sa.gov.au/camping for prices.)
There are some limited low cost camps here on the Island and to see many of these fabulous places you may need to spread your visit over at least 3 or 4 days. Please feel free to give me a PM as I am happy to discuss further options for you. Gwynnie

Just stumbled into the Slo GN section by mistake (my fingers are sometimes to big for the tablet) and saw the Heading Kangaroo Island.
Your pictures are great memories, we think KI has mowed up bucket List near the top. We hoping to be at York Peninsula in say April/May 2019 might make a detour from there.

Appreciative of your comments. It is easy to become attached to the people and places here on this Island as they are a friendly lot and there are loads to do and see here. I will be away from the Island from 1st February until the first week in May 2019 visiting family in QLD. Sorry Gwynnie that I didn't reply to you sooner but thank you very much for the info, we are planning to head down that way probably sometime around April. As we will only be on the island for 3 or 4 days it sounds like our best option will be to leave the van on the mainland. I may PM you when the trip gets a little closer but right now we are busy trying to finalising our plans for a visit to Tassie in February (without the van).
