It's actually an interesting topic this, do people really become more grumpy with age, or less tolerant, if it's less tolerant then that's pretty sad, after all the later years are meant to be the wise years. Plus getting less tolerant of fools can also be a precursor to road rage and lots of other negative traits within society. Being less tolerant of "Fools" also could indicate that someone isn't willing to put themselves in the other person shoes, a sign of a lack of empathy perhaps.
Can actually see this in physical action around here. Down Sydney Road through Coburg and Brunswick, one of the slowest roads in Melbourne and perhaps the country. The locals, "Always" let people in from car park positions or from side streets, always.... Whereas people from outside the area, or outside inner Melbourne, react with anger when people try to move in expecting to be let in as that is the norm around here. Thankfully the locals outnumber the "ring ins" by about 10 to 1. I'm sure that a lot of people visiting this area thinks everyone down here drives like a "Fool" Traffic wouldn't move around these parts if this unusual tolerance of giving way to people moving into the flow every 50 meters or so wasn't the norm.
I'd hoped I'd become more tolerant with age. Not so sure about the grumpy bit, do they go hand in hand?

I don't see why you consider it "sad" that people may become less tolerant as they age. I think it's rather that experience and gained knowledge gives one (or should) the ability to be more discerning.
As best I recall; when I was 20 (mid 1970s) I was in favour of everything which was new and/or challenging to the social norms of the time. Some of those challenges were positive but, of course, not all however, like most youngsters, I thought I knew it all and my solutions were right. Experience has taught me I was wrong in many of my perceptions of that time. Does that make me less tolerant? Sure it does but a refusal to accept anything anyone want to do is not "intolerance" but rather wisdom - one hopes :)
As G K Chesterton said: "Tolerance is the attitude of those who do not believe in anything."

What i have noticed on our travels is nomads are a happy lot. Some showgrounds we have stayed at have a lot of working people living in their caravans. Nomads tend to go out out n chat, have happy hours but those living there and working like to stay in their vans and mostly keep to themselves. Much the same as living in a house in suburbia. Just my observations. Recently saw a couple, 2 small children living out of a roof top tent n a lean to. Lovely couple and delightful kids. More and more i am seeing homelessness and its heart breaking.
just a few weeks ago my brother and I with our wifes stopped over in a C.P at Katherine, nice big sites so not on top of one another, as I was connecting my water to the van i acknowledged the next door occupier "Hi, hows things" he turned away without a word, Ok, so be it i thought, later that afternoon we sat around my brothers van [two up from our ole mate] and played guitars, [we only know half a dozen cords, but can strum a song or two] after around 15 min, our ole mate shouted across Shut the bloody noise up, [he never moved from his chair]
He shouted twice to us, but never came over face to face, this guy would have only been 45 - 50 yrs old, and it was only 4.pm in the arvo.
Takes all sorts doesn't it !
obvious the assumed grumpy nomads are grumpy because they don't live in Cairns,
Gday...
I agree. However, many GNs (this forum or otherwise) travel north to the lovely places like Cairns from May to Sept and are not grumpy.
but if they stay beyond Sept then they get grumpy because it is too hot and humid for them.
Ya canna pleeze em all
cheers - John
Oh I dont Know...I am currently still in Port Douglas until months end and am loving it, in fact I am going to buy a house for future use before I leave for home.
5 months south of Sydney and 6 or so months up in FNQ, although not everybodys choice, is my perception of perfection.

It's currently the best time of the year for our wildlife photography up there right now.
Fly out Melb-Cairns tomorrow for 3 weeks FNQ trip.
Flown to Darwin the past 2 years on similar trips at this time, Cairns won't be as humid as up there.
Visited Cairns area many times since back in the 80's, always nice to visit.

Ah Ha! and I'll wager that you immediately said "hey, that's a Notechic scutatus" or given where you were "hey, that's a Notechic scutatus scutatus" "Where's my extra long handled shovel"
Nice overnight stay at mt Franklin tonight. If the young guys kept the rock music on for too long I'd be grumpy....but alas, all asleep at 11pm. Cool night, fresh and wonderful.

G'day Graham, the middle pic of that Tiger in the link is exactly the one, even the same size of the beast and he even did what the one in the pic did, headed to the water's of the Tumut River where I am set up next too. There has been Browns around where I am but the first Tiger seen while I have been here. I'm on the move again today though so will leave him behind.

4 days ago. Sat chatting with friends at a Victorian CP (6 of us all over 60) next to one of our vans. It was 5.20pm, conversation at normal volume. Grump next door camped in a tent, came along and made it clear "don't want you lot carrying on all night next to our tent bedroom". As planned, we disbanded at 6.15pm. One of our group wasn't feeling well and retired early, remaining couples were off to town for a meal then an earlyish night due to early departure next day. Someone had egg on his face, hopefully....
PS, sorry but he was a South Australian...
