I am using an MUX at the moment to pull a small off road van around. I am about to pick up a Dmax as my second car and now the good wife would like a van with an ensuite. Do you think the Dmax will pull an off roader that has an ATM of 3350, its tare weight is 2265.

Gee Swampy, I have a Colorado that is similar to a Dmax and Max should have a maximum tow weight of 3,500kg and tow ball weight of 350kg. Poor Max will be working very hard indeed with 3350kg on it's tail end and more than likely a very high ball weight.
IMO I reckon the weights you are talking about are much to much for poor little Max to work with. If you do go with what you say I reckon you will have to upgrade the rear suspension but I am pretty sure that is not allowed now. Unless it is done before leaving the Isuzu factory. That is my understanding of that anyway.
I tow a 2700kg aluminium teepee with a 250kg ball weight and wouldn't like to go much more than that and I tell you that for free.

I tow a 3200kg Jayco Silverline Outback with an MY17 Colorado without problem, so Im sure you will be able to do it with your Dmax. After market suspension upgrades are still allowed but upgraded GCM are not

Like Doug we have a Colorado but have a 2700KG Caravan. Seems to tow fine but this is our first van so cannot speak from great experience.
Swampy42, with a van tare mass of 2265 kg, what are you loading the off-road van with that would take it up to ATM 3350 kg? The tare weight of my off-road van is about 2150 and fully loaded with tools, water (180kg) , clothing, food, etc. it is about 2500 kg and the ATM of 2800 kg is never approached. I suspect that your MUX or Dmax would cope ok unless you load a boat, motorbike, plus 500 litres water, etc. on the van...
However, I stick by the golden rule of having the tug heavier than the trailer and never exceed the GCM or the ATM or the tug towbar and axle limitations.
