This area is certainly greener than the caravan parks we stayed in during the past week (travelling from Warrnambool to Toowoomba via Cobar, Bourke, Cunnamulla & St George. The only areas where "winter" had shown up was from Warrnambool to Mortlake - the rest was VERY, VERY, DRY!
Level 5 restrictions are in place at Lake Cargellico where even the sewerage dams were low (best bird watching areas in any town).

We heard two truckies north of Bourke talking about the roos just sitting on the road "begging the trucks to put them out of their misery". The many goats & occasional pig seem to be the only animals surviving. Stations that are tapping into the artesian basin are still providing for their remaining cattle.
On our trip, we have seen one wedge-tailed eagle (as we were coming out of Bowra) - are their numbers being reduced by the drought too?

One mistake a lot of drivers make when sighting a Wedgie is not slowing down. The eagles are large & therefore slow to lift off + they "stand their ground". They are not willing to share their meal with other birds, a fatal mistake when the other "bird" is a fast moving car/truck!

They're too busy riding the gravy train. Whenever it pulls into the station some get off and others get on. Those that get off are accompanied by a BIIIIG bag of loot. Statement is not verbatim but the gist can be attributed to Bishop Desmond Tutu who said something similar in another country at another time.

This didn't help the Wedgie population back in June!
