There was a post from a member (I assume - "tworingers") about a "recommendation" for a brake service at Rockhampton & it seems some members took this as being an advert for a company.
I looked up "tworingers" info - he lives at Mackay which is ONLY 300kms north of Rockhampton. That is a bit far to carry out service work on caravans & get home for dinner! Travel costs would be prohibitive to start with.
The only ones who are expected to work over these distances are either truckies or politicians (our local Federal Govt member is based in Mackay - 400 kms south of the southern suburbs of Townsville).
Was this message scrapped unnecessarily? Perhaps it could have been written better so it didn't appear to be an advert.

Hi all, I removed the post as I felt it was a straightforward advertisement. The OP hadn't contributed any other posts - and even though he may come from a different area initially, he still may still have reasons to want to advertise the business. If I hear back from him, I may reinstate the post into 'recommendations'. Thanks everyone for your feedback.
Their was nothing wrong with tworingers post. After all what is this forum for? It may well helped some one with a problem with with a bearing has fell apart.
If tworingers post was an add than most of the posts on "recommendations" are ADDS.
Hi Cindy & fellow members,
I had already sent a PM to the person(s) involved. It was a genuine recommendation & they asked how they should have gone about it better.
I gave them a few pointers & I feel that we'll hear from them again soon.
They are travellers with a base in Mackay.
Cheers.

Hi all, I think it might be worth clarifying our policy on advertising within posts. Over the years, our forum has attracted lots of people who would like to advertise their businesses, services, and websites to our forum members. In order to protect our editorial integrity, we have decided that a blanket ban on all advertising within posts is the best approach. Having said that, we are also keen for forum members to pass on their good experiences with businesses, services or places on to others, so we created the ‘Recommendations’ forum. It is sometimes difficult to differentiate between a real recommendation and someone who is just trying to advertise their own business. If someone’s first and only post lists a recommended business with contact details, it raised some alarm bells for me. I removed the post, and wrote to the OP for clarification. Once I hear back from them, I would be happy to place the post in the ‘Recommendations’ forum if it belongs there.

That sounds perfectly reasonable to me.

I will have to be carefull now when people ask for advice on who can they get to fix or service their rig has I have recommended people in the past , Often menber ask for advice on the general forum has it has the most exposer , This new member had been on the forum for about 4 months and was their first post not has if they join the same day , I think this whole thing was just over the top by a elite few .
Thanks Cindy,
I was just a little peeved with a few members who jumped in without clarifying the distances involved (Qld is a wee bit bigger than Victoria) & therefore declaring the message as "advertising".
I know some people are surprised that I'd consider travelling 7-800kms in a day; it's something you have to do at times. I had a boss at one stage (based in Sydney) who suggested I should have stopped driving 1/2 way between Mt Isa & Townsville - "it's too far Warren" I was told. And when I queried wasting two days instead of one, he saw my point.
I did not want a newbie to be put off the forum totally on his first post & I suggested to Dave that he & his wife should read the forum writings to see how to communicate with us. We are all here to share experiences (good & bad), learn off each other & fix our problems.
I had an idea not so long ago - would it be interesting to see what each member has done in their lives as far as work goes? I know there are at least two of us who've done similar things in the Dept of Communications & PMG/Telecom/Telstra. I know in some of the posts that some people share their work experiences.
