Hi, well I have arrived back n Oz and am on the look for a 4x4 Toyota LC to follow with a camper trailer suitable for long term travel living. If anyone has or has had, can they recommend.
If you get a hard floor fold over and don't get annex you will have no problems - soft floor campers really need two people to manage. Aussie Inlander made at Tamworth had some at reduced price.
We tow a black series behind our motorhome it is a soft floor . As said if annex is not erected it is a 10 minute job at most to set up . Not much longer than setting up awning on motorhome . Itâs the other options that makes camping worthwhile .. Such as shower etc . We fitted better options . Elect water pump etc .. To me better fitting myself ..
Yes, soft floor or hard floor. something to think about. Talked to someone today who mention a Jayco Penguin s being suitable. Did read awhile back that Jayco's had some problems, not sure what model though.
I think the Jayco's with problems are ones with Jayco name affixed............Sorry bad joke. The best van I've ever owned was a Jayco. BIL has a Jayco camper Trailer 2013 model absolutely no problems.
I think it is the new models that have serious issues with too many parts made in Asia.

I have a Kimberley kamper which is a hard floor,had it since 2006,it has been brilliant,easy to setup in short time, very comfortable. Been to Cape York several times,the Kimberley,The Gulf track(where I am now)and many places in between. There is often some good second hand ones for sale around different sales sites.
We have a Black Series forward fold Dominator 5 min and your good to go if your strong enough can be unfolded without using the winch, even quicker , but need to use it to fold up as you need to tuck in the canvas as you go .

Yes we knew about reviews . But in our case . The value of $8k couldnât be matched . They have new owners admin the last few years . The rear hatch has been rectified about 6 years ago .

I had a blackseries dominator (sold now) I had one problem with a brake sticking on, they offered to send someone out to get me going if I was stuck. but I was happy to have a new backing plate and brake sent out by courier so I can't complain about after sales service mine cost $17000 new, the equivalent Australian made was over $40000 plus. for nearly $25000 difference I can do a lot of repairs/replacing ect it did it's job then was replaced. they have improved their QC over the years the only other issue a had was the tyres I had the "off road" tyres fitted(265 x75x16) and unless you have had a lift on the tug they are to tall. replaced them with 265 x 65 16 and the rig sat pretty level
Home alone yes thats correct however as dog box said with the $25,000 saved on another more expensive model I to figure I can change a fair few things and still be in front , have done a few mods to ours
* 400 w solar on boat rack ,
* rvwifi ,
* rewired power lead from Anderson plug to batteries and back to fridge ,
* inverted hitch on camper and Ute now sits level ,
** still to go mount hot water heater and a quick set up and down shower screen ,
** possibly will shift spare water and gas to the rear between spare tyres and rear of camper for better room and balance when cupboards up front are loaded as I have spare weight available on the trailer wheels but not so much on the Ute
Then its off to Birdsville via broken hill ,down the Birdsville track and up the Oodnadatta track and back home to NW Vic
in July August cant wait

Thanks for all the comments. I have decided on a Johnnos Evolution off road camper I have been looking at online for awhile, the price is good compared to the Patriot camper and it can be setup by one person.
Has all the necessary accessories; shower, solar, 80 Ltr. fridge, awnings etc. etc.
had it since late april,had all oils/fluids changed over,odd that i asked for 'all oils'yet they did not change the power steering . or the transmission.(Toyota dealership) you would think they would follow that request,(money in the bank?)
I am looking for advice on solar/12v set up.my TLC is an ex Britz hire so it has a range of 12V Dual bats and a fibre glass roof (dome type)
Any advice on products to avoid or price(ball park fine) types of solar.
Can a solar panel go on the top of my TLC Troopey (weight/fixing points? are they an issue ? )

What did you end up getting Vern and how has it been working.
Correct me if I'm wrong but it appears the Johnno's are a soft floor camper which was the opposite of the majority of the advise provided, so I'm curious what made the decision for you and how it's been thus far?
Im a single mature white female who is just starting her camping journey. I bought a 2nd-hand Avan Aliner. I can set it up in under 5 minutes, 10 with awning. It has all the comforts of home except a shower

about a $100 could buy you a porta-poty, solar hand shower and shower tent and you will be set-up with all the comforts of home

I bought an Off-road C'van and am now learning the ropes as I go from those more experienced.
Heading north again, but how I know not. Need to consider when the rain season begins.
