Grandmother killed by motorhome in NSW

Gday...

Unaware of the actual circumstances, other than the description provided in the attached article, but it highlights the need for extreme care to be exercised when travelling - and making sure vehicle/s are safe and secure.

Morning John,

Most unfortunate incident.

Not sure about extreme care, making sure a vehicle cant move before doing a walk around check seems like a normal safety precaution to me.

We see way too many people being killed or injured by being run over by their own vehicle.

That's debatable, we've been traveling for almost 6 years & we've never met anyone that's subscribed to this forum yet. There's a lot of oldies out there. smilesmile

We do a lot of independent bush camping, obviously not many on here do. Personal preference entirely. smilesmile

Very sorry for the unfortunate accident.nono

That has Little to do with being a member of this forum , the number of people we meet on the road probably outnumber the members on here by at least 100/1

Really DD In 6 years  on the road you've  never met anyone from this forum. I'm really surprised. I've  met and know many, many from this forum.

We meet up repeatedly all over oz. Some I stay in their back yards eg Sheba. Some at Greens Lake then again in Hervey Bay for lunch.

This poor lady will be known to some of us I'm sure.

Exactly Santa. This is not about having never met another grey nomad.
It's about this poor lady who some of us may know who has been killed in tragic circumstances.

Oh I get it. Off topic does not help this tragic situation.

End of comment.

It's sad for a persons dreams to end in tragedy no matter the cause. I mean I know a friend that changed his life by simply not clamping the jockey wheel correctly and it caused the vans A frame to slide down his leg. Six operations  and a limp for ever;  and a year visiting Doctors. An experienced man who made a simple error or just losing the strength in his hands to do up a lever.

Any way here is an example from Winnebago in the US that might bring a smile.smile

http://www.chron.com/news/casey/article/Incredible-lawsuit-tales-1826357.php

Winnebago winner?

"This year's runaway First Place Stella Award winner was Mrs. Merv Grazinski , of Oklahoma City, who purchased a new 32-foot Winnebago motor home. On her first trip home, from an OU football game, having driven on to the freeway, she set the cruise control at 70 mph and calmly left the driver's seat to go to the back of the Winnebago to make herself a sandwich.

"Not surprisingly, the motor home left the freeway, crashed and overturned. Also not surprisingly, Mrs. Grazinski sued Winnebago for not putting in the owner's manual that she couldn't actually leave the driver's seat while the cruise control was set.

"The Oklahoma jury awarded her are you sitting down? $1,750,000 plus a new motor home. Winnebago actually changed their manuals as a result of this suit, just in case Mrs. Grazinski has any relatives who might also buy a motor home."

The e-mail concludes: "Are we, as a society, getting more stupid?"

Apart from the bad taste by making light of a tragedy, you might like to check the veracity of things that you post.

Searches on the internet regarding your "might bring a smile" article show it in several forms, with various names.

Now, if it was meant to be funny, maybe another section of the forum would have been more appropriate. However if it was in your mind, a factual event, check before you post.

With no malice, and good wishes to you and the unfortunate victim and her family, I will leave this for the forums consideration.

Wal

Thank you Wal1 and Santa  for the  moral  instruction. If you both look at my post and find it out of line, consider what you are saying to me. I have not insulted a member here as you have. I must say you have both turned on a member due to choosing to be upset. Your choice.

Another member chose to be upset over the wording of anothers post. His choice.

So this forum descends into the persecution of members rather than the discussion of a topic; where others views constantly cause the (choosing to be upset syndrome.)

I did condescend that the poor lady died in unfortunate circumstances, and attempted to paraphrase how something simple can bring great pain to a person for even a simple mistake and cause an accident. Like my friend did.

I did indicate for levity though, that article thats been floating around for years.

I did this as I saw yet another thread go west over the simple wording of a members post and another member taking it the wrong way. Choosing to be upset.

But I have not insulted any one, or judged any one. Ok you two choose to take the high moral ground and build an altar of grief to that poor lady at my expense.

Do you do this also to the many motorcycle incidents? They seemingly cant stay on their bit of road and hit trees; killing themselves. Or the idiots that do the same with their cars and cause their own demise. Does that cause you grief? I mean they are not accidents but maybe purposdents no?

But this lady died due to a set of circumstances unknown, and I am simply saying (Based on that article), that to get between a Motor Home and its towed vehicle is a bit unwise. It might be a number of reasons. No denigration in my post at all.

Of course I understand that the written word cannot convey feeling, or even intent without the influence of inflection of the spoken word. Your immediate high mindedness and your need to educate me in even the researching of others light hearted internet info is staggering.
