I bought a 3.7 kva generator on Thursday using eBay, I picked it up today from Seven Hills Sydney, thought it a bit strange it didn't have packing and looked a bit dirty. When I got home I put it on my work bench for a closer look, next what I saw was terrible, oil was dripping from the bottom of the case, had a small amount of petrol in the tank, 10 cm crack down one side, scratch marks on various parts of the case, pull cord was frayed, took the spark plug out and it was burnt and black.
It was advertised as new unused from EDISONS MYTOPIA. Mills International Trading , Can only contact them through you guessed it call centre in Thailand.
They have been totally untruthful with this sale and this is the second time I have had a problem with trying to buy this item so I am waiting for a refund of 475 dollars for the first one.
To say that I'm pi--ed off you have no idea, cannot leave a complaint on reviews grrrrrrrrrrrrr
The owner got an award for starting a company that was turning over ten million dollars within two years..
Bought a Mig welder for six hundred dollars from them.
Opened the box and the same, looked like a previously used item. Didn't work anyway. After several weeks of emailing Paypal was informed and they advised us to demand a refund .Mills said to return it at our cost to an address in Seven Hills. This was after Paypal got involved. Lots of unanswered emails from Mills.
The process sounded Iffy so I Googled the address...............A vacant block. Paypal said to return it anyway.
Transport company tried to deliver to the return address, yes a vacant block. Last I heard the transport company had it in their warehouse unable to deliver. Paypal refunded our money but of course we were out the Fifty dollars return transport costs.
Why do we have these shonky companies allowed to continue trading. Surely the Consumer affairs people should be able to pull the licence to operate.
I got a damaged, used whipper snipper in a new box that had been re-sealed. Would appear that someone bought a new one, packed the old one in and returned it. Staff just put it back on the shelf.
Bought another battery powered tool. Supposed to be a 4Ah battery included. A few weeks later noticed it was only a 2.5Ah, took it back and actually got a 5Ah as the 4Ah were no longer available. They guy remembered me as we both checked the battery, noted it was 2.5Ah but it was only when I got home I realised it was supposed to be a 4Ah
Then bought a clothesline only to get it home and find a small slash in the box that had been re-taped and all the hardware was missing. The person who handled this for me said that slashing a box and nicking hardware is quite a common problem. She was always ordering extra hardware packs for all sorts of items.
Had very similar experience but with a 2000W inverter (Mills Trading) which failed after a month - took 3 months of emails and finally they sent a new circuit board from China instead of complete unit! Lucky my B.I.L. is a radio tech.
Their ads read great and show good reviews....strange thing that!
Don't forget to put a review on Product Review.com Ebay reviews are not to be trusted as I put up a bad review on Ebay about some dodgy electrical connectors after the sellers refused to refund - after the review was posted the seller contacted me offering to refund money plus replace items if I changed review. Foolishly I did change review but regret it.
Sorry to hear the above ebay stories. Whilst I like to save where I can, there might something to be said about paying the extra bucks sometimes and collecting in person, getting the chance to check up front what they are trying to flog off to you. Give the bad reviews when applicable. These shonks need a bullet up their backside!
Cheers, John.

I think buying over the internet is very dubious you can be leaving yourself wide open for being ripped off , I only buy small items on the net . I know at least a doz people that have been more than dissatisfied with bigger purchases . If you cant afford a new Honda or Yamaha have a look round and buy a good one S/H , I picked up a honda 2kva for $1000 and it had been used for an hr , it was like new . Just have to be patient and keep looking.
Check online then go to places like Bunnings . Prices are near the same . Atleast you can return or have some warranty !! Aldi has the best warranty . If we have issues . They tell us to take another, one just swap ! Can't complain about that !! Online is ok if it's out of retail type store . So you can take it BACK !
If you can't afford the Honda or Yamaha (originals) from regular Australian outlets (Generator Place, etc). Wait for the Aldi sales that will be coming for Christmas - I have been using an Aldi 4.5 KVA and an 2 KVA on the farm for over 7 years. I do also have a Honda 2.0i fitted in Caravan and an Old Honda 1000 in the camper van.
My point being that Aldi units are usually reliable and Aldi are famously reliable on honouring Warranties if TSHTF.
