Here in W.A. us pensioners are offered 1 free trip return anywhere in the State per year by Public transport
kiwijims, not quite free at all to anywhere in the State of WA, eg., there are no free coach or train services that allow you a free trip to Broome and other places north of Perth. Coach services to Kalgoorlie are no longer available, train service is. Still WA is a fabulous state in which to live and enjoy travel. To say that here in W.A. us pensioners are offered 1 free trip return anywhere in the State per year by Public transport is really not correct.....Kisha
Don't know about others either. but QLD gives ALL pensioners a free bus or train ride. Return. To anywhere inside State limits. Just show your pension card nowadays. Di and I keep meaning to go for a li'l trip up to Maggie.
But every time we do. Unfortunately. I take the caravan. As no hotels etc take cats.
Should really see if other States reciprocate hey??.
Would get a lot of the oldies visiting family and friends.
I've never used it. ever. One day.
Hey. That your Avatar Kisha. Nice sparkle in the eyes there.
If I was 40 yrs younger hey..

Settle down Macka your Heart not has good has it once was, A former PM gave us Reciprocate right to other state with the pension travel pass , This has since removed by another PM , In Queensland you are able to have 4 one way free pass to anywhere in Queensland on the Queensland rail , You do have to pay a booking fee and it is for a seat only , If you want a sleeper you can use 2 pass for one way travel plus a booking fee . With cheap are fare it's is just has cheap to fly has booking fee is not cheap .
This is not a thread for those of you who are of the mind "Üser Pays"
We all say how travelling around is good for our health. If that is the case. we must be saving the community a few dollars in health care bills whilst contributing a few more dollars to the towns we visit. Must also keep us out of aged are homes for a longer period.
This has to be good for the taxpayers supporting us.
Disability pensioners get priority parking and I was wondering if there were any concessions that we could use to make it easier when we travel.
Perhaps all Visitor centres could allow us to fill our tanks with water. I know there are some that do already.
10% off coffee and haircuts really don't do much for me.
What are your thoughts, is there some concession for aged pensioners that would assist you to travel?
Pie in the sky , or Pigs will fly suggestions welcome. Just throwing it out there for discussion.
As a pie in the sky thought
I would selfishly like to see
All the oldies who have lost their old age pension concessions, due to the Government thinking that we have too much cash, to regain our original concessions
Hang on! Wait a minute!!
Mel and Molly, you are both legends That is what the Government has just done
Can you open another topic, while us oldies are on a roll, please
I traveled NSW, solo, for 5 months in 2015. I did the from the Qld border to Batemans Bay, & from the coast to the Newel Hwy.
I found the biggest saving was to check the difference between powered & unpowered sites.
One showground was $25 powered & $9 unpowered. $8 difference was common.
Often the unpowered sites are far nicer.
In that van I had 180 watt solar panel, 100 a/h battery, 300 watt pure sine wave inverter (to charge laptop & rechargle batteries). I watched tv for 3-4 hrs at night. Never saw the battery below 12.2v.
Cheers Pete
I received a account today for my water, let it be known not a happy camper.
First off this is the second one and 2 more to follow as the year progress.
Now my pie in the sky would be if the utilities providers would pro rater me the difference when I am away. 14 weeks we have been away so far this year, the previous account was much the same, of the $264 only $25 was for water, that would of been when we filled the tanks, was the car and caravan, had a shower, took off again.
I will get 4 of these all with similar totals, while there at it the council can do the same with the rates also the electricity a/c. That possibly would add up to about $2400 that would mean we could spend longer away sharing it with thevsmall towns and it goes on.
Think yourself lucky Radar, The last trip we did away, we returned home to find a dirty great crater in the front lawn,
Our water pipe had blown out but luckily for us a bloke next door had seen the great geyser going straight up and jumped the fence to turn it off,
When the Plumber turned up, he was kind enough to fill in a form stating that it was an under-ground burst and we were none the wiser until it blew upwards, I forwarded this form to the Water Authority who in turn said that we had used 170.000 Kl of water, but at the same time they would allow this amount to be deducted from our next bill, they also said that this deduction was a ONCE ONLY let-off the next time it happened, we would have to foot the bill. !!!
The plumber did a good job on the repairs and to date we have had no more worries, xxxx Fingers.

Why is it looked down upon to ask for a discount on a product or service. I dont think of it as "begging" or "scrounging", it's is a normal part of doing business with another organisation or company. If a discount or price reduction was offered to you for a good or service, would you reply and say " no thanks I want to pay the full market price as I am not a scrounger or bludger or a beggar"?. Is there anyone on this forum who has checked and inflated their tyres at a service station and then gone inside and said " I want to pay you for the use of your airline, compressor and electricity to inflate my tyres"?. How many times have you made a point of buying food that has a discount ticket on in a supermarket, or have you said to the checkout chick "dont ring up the discount price, I want to only pay the full price". Every one at some time enjoys a freebie or a discount on something, so get real and dont castigate others for doing what is a normal part of life for everyone.

I provide onsite IT support and I often get asked if I give a pensioner discount.
Being of retirement age myself, I work to be self funded in retirement rather than a welfare burden on society and I always feel uncomfortable for being asked this.
I always must kindly and tactfully reply that the government doesn't give me any tax concessions for doing business with welfare recipients and neither do any of my suppliers of goods and services that I use in my business.
What do I get out of it? My costs are no less because I do business with older people versus younger people.
