Hi Rocket

do you use Facebook? There is a great Facebook page of Showgrounds and recreation grounds across all states.

There is a terrific free camp at Genoa, do you need power and water?  let me know if you've got Facebook and if not I'll look up the sites for you.

Cheers Dianne

I just had a look, between Bairnsdale and Genoa there is just Lakes Entrance. Don't forget Pub Stays they are good. Free if you buy a drink usually??? There is also a Facebook page for pub sites. I know not everyone has access to Facebook and not everyone wants facebook.  just offering info. smile

The shire caravan park at Cann River isn't expensive & it's very nice. Pay fees at the pub over the bridge. www.eastgippsland.vic.gov.au/Services/Council_Caravan_Parks/Cann_River_Rainforest_Caravan_Park

Have a look at the Lakes Entrance Recreation Reserve (right on the water and close to supermarket)

From our observations while staying there for a week no-one walked down to the pub to pay their fees anyway. People coming & going every day, free power, showers, water etc. How do they sleep at night!

I also wonder how do they sleep at night, with someone keeping tabs on how often they take a dump. That's about as creepy as it gets. Too used to spying on birds perhaps.

Cheers John.

No c/parks overlooking the surf beach. Lakes Entrance rec reserve (Rowe St) has waterfront sites. Would pay to book - also has un powered sites. Both powered and un-powered are north facing and back onto the back lake - good if the weather is SW. Old facilities but very central for supermarket and meals. We live in Lakes and would be my choice.
Eastern Beach Caravan park is a 5-10 minute walk to the surf and you can drive right to the sand dunes.
Or the other closest would be Water Edge and walk over the footbridge to the surf. Another option is Silver Sands in Myer St but the sites are small and the owner can be grumpy

As you can see most of Lakes Entrance is sited around the lake system - the c/parks mentioned are all to the left hand side of the photo
