Mobile Coverage for FNQ and Cape York region

Hi All,

I will be travelling to Cape York end of May 17 for around 6 weeks, could anyone give me advice for mobile and internet services in the mentioned region. I will need to access services to pay such bills like Car rego, power etc.

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers

I suggest you look at the Telstra coverage map on their web site.

It does not give a pretty picture for the Cape, with the exception around Bamaga by the look of it.

I doubt the others are better.

Thanks will do, but still nothing like the true story from others who have experienced the area.

If you going to get any coverage. ANYWHERE in Australia.
Have Telstra Service. It's THE best for that.

They are main carrier and give the maximum radius services.

Most arrange their bills ahead. or even PAY in advance.
after arranging (with a ph call )that they will cover any discrepancies on return.

6 weeks?. Most bills are quarterly?? or annual.(rego, that you can do by post.)
Just find ahead, a post office where you'll be in a weeks time?
and get posted there. Most hold for (used to be a month?)

Nowadays I just take tablet or lappie.
and when in range. arrange any loose bills,
PREaranged to be notified to my email address.
There used to be a Aust wide list of P.O's a few yrs ago?.

Though for that short a term.
I'd just pay fixed ones and tell others you'll pay when you get back.

MOST, I've found will tack a note on your acc't to that fact.

And whatever.

Not been there b4?.
You'll have a ball. Enjoy. And watch your tyre pressures.

G'day, in 2015 we got very little coverage. At one of the Ranger stations, Weipa and very little more. If you really need a phone then a sat phone is the go.

Good luck.

It is a great place , don't let a phone stop you going.

With the phones.

We normally, just leave one turned on (telstra Blue Tick)

Then when, if it beeps.
Start them up and catch any messages. make any calls.

Me. I prefer to just turn it off.
and leave message on,
telling from what date to try ringing again.

Leave phone off in remote areas if you don't have it plugged into power and no phone reception. Batteries flatten real quick as the phone spends all of it's time trying to find a tower.

Just keep it plugged into cig lighter on dash. I do.

You'd only be doing it while travelling

and "maybe. Possibly" getting a reception somewhere.
