Genset battery expensive!!!

The battery in my genset is only 51mm wide, where most are around 65mm.

A "specially made" battery for $55!!disbelief This battery is L 150mm, W 51mm, and H 93 or 107 to top of terminals.

Thinking about how to get around this with maybe a cheap Lithium jump starter. Might burn the place down though.no

Thoughts?

Aussie Paul. smile

Have a quick look at motorbike battery's mate.

Could be lucky.

Otherwise. Like me.
Pull the string. I ALWAYS buy manual start genny's.
easy to pull over. AND less to go wrong

Even my big Dirt Bikes were always kick start.

Has it got some sort of model number on it. Don't think I've seen one without a number. Will give you an idea what to replace it with

Just had a quick look on ebay and there seems to be some available
NEW-6V-12AH-UPS-SLA-battery-6-volt-gt-7ah-9AH-Solar-Power-Scooter-ride-on-toy

New Vision 6V 7AH Sealed Lead-Acid Battery AGM UPS APC Alarm Toy car 7.0ah 20hr

Sorry, just noticed that the ones I looked at were 6v.

Cannot seem to find the smaller width in 12v.

 Hi paul

My first thought would be don't by a battery, fit a anderson plug to your gen set and just jump start it from the 2nd battery in the tow car or from the caravan house batteries.

I have my caravan fitted with a couple of anderson plugs,  I can run a inverter from, the portable frig, charge the caravan house batteries up, run a 12 volt air compressor for example.

Hope this may help.

Always game Paul biggrin

https://hobbyking.com/en_us/zippy-flightmax-4200mah-2s1p-30c-lifepo4-pack.html

which is 52mm -would that fit? or check some of the options on the website.

I would add a switch to isolate the battery from the genset after starting so it doesn't get charged.

Charge it with one of these https://hobbyking.com/en_us/imax-b6-ac-v2-charger-discharger-1-6-cells-genuine-au-plug.html

IMHO the motorcycle LiFePo4 batteries do not bode well in operation, they fail too early due to overcharging voltage.

Lead Acid motorcycle battery (or UPS battery) would be your best bet though, drop in -if you can find a fit

Gday Paul, hope you are well mate.

I bought a small 3AH 12V sealed batt for $20 from battery world for a mobile supply, tiny little thing should have enough guts to crank your genny, however it would need a charge each time.

I read your memories in facebook mate, was that an ultralight those many years ago?

Cheers mate

Phil, would it charge from the genset like the original one does?

I think it should. If the old sealed batt did I recon the new one will. Depends on the charging system on board the genset. I would check that out first, like the delivered voltage and if its a constant current or constant voltage charger.

Saw the vid mate, love autogyros.

Cheers

Glad you enjoyed the vid

You wouldn't happen to have a part number for that battery would you Phil?

Hi Paul,

I cant find the bloody thing to get you a part number, however if you go to battery world they have these for sale. From memory they are about 2.5 to 3AH 12V sealed gel batt.

Sorry mate, we have just had a big clean up and its lost in a box someplace.

Cheers
