Hacksaw Ridge Movie

Hello People,

My Wife and I just came home from watching the new Movie Out today called "Hacksaw Ridge" not sure if I can say this here but

at the beginning a guy comes on the screen and says this movie will change your life, as most do!!

But I got to say it moved me and I sat watching this thinking how did those Men "Hero's" ever do that my hands were shaking in some parts and

the way they if even if it partly true they just moved ever forward with all what was going on around them is true, Man they don't make "Men" like that anymore

Go watch before you say anything, you sit there after and just feel numb......

OH yes, its worth it not like any war movie you have seen, the start of a movie a few years ago about D-Day landing is so tame

Dave85 - I appreciate movies can affect your emotions but you shouldn't assume that "they don't make Men like that any more" (or women for that matter). Until a person is put in a similar situation and god forbid that any of us are. who knows how they are going to react. The men who fought and died on the beaches of Normandy were real people not just characters in a Spielberg movie - he was trying to tell a story not make a documentary.

They do make men and women like that nowadays, they are called Sailors, Soldiers, Airmen and Airwomen.
They proudly sign on the dotted line with their lives.
Everyone of them, no matter where they serve or in what capacity, are there to serve their country with their very last breath.
Work with the them, serve with them, save them when the Government turns their back on them.
Look after the widows/partners and children of those who die.
Then you might see what I see on a daily basis.
Yes they are heroes.
All Veterans and their families are to me.

I believe I must explain my post some more and hope I can get across my comments better in the I only compared the two movie in the style and times they were made, not to do with any of the brave men who had fought with those areas of war.
The movie is so shocking and so different in the way it was done from earlier war movies I have seen and ask if that is how war in those times was fought, well is brutal
Yes, all people who serve and give their lives for others are Heros and rightly so and did not wish to disrespect that and as my grandfather died for this country I do understand peoples feeling on this matter.
And my remark about They dont make Men like That anymore is wrong and I guess we dont know who would do what in that time and place.
Sorry if I offended anyone it was not intention
Dave

My hubby and I saw this yesterday and cried a few times. Even my hubby said he did also. It was so well done and I thought, I hope none of my grandsons ever have to go to war. I find it hard to understand men's greed or disrespect to take over what's not theirs in the first place whether it be land, beliefs or power over others.

i also tried to find the history of that ridge and why they were fighting there. I was not able to get an answer.

Sometime back i watched an interview , some channel ??? with Bob Hawk and one of the questions was which are his greatest concerns in todays world ?? and one of his answers was the the World was VASTLY OVERPOPULATED!!??.
I sometimes wander if World or other Conflicts around the globe are because of greed !!??, Power??, the nececity to occupy anothers lands for whatever reason or the means to reduce the overpopulation ??? by agreement behind some closed doors or otherwise!!??....

Mel Gibson's  "Brave Heart"   was historically  inaccurate to a laughable degree.

Yes. BUT enjoyable and a bit of a laugh.

War movies.
All people think about is killing and the glory of.
Let it rest.
The day leaders are made to LEAD again.
is the day wars will stop.

The best thing people can do is say. Go and do it yourself.

Yea. And I live in a dream world.
Would be nice though hey.
War and bravery, is just what individuals do on an individual day.
Some are s------ than others.

Me. I'd hide under a rock till it was over.
I lived through back end of second world war
and lived in the heavy industry part of pommie land.
Bombed EVERY day.
And I remember some of it thank you NOT.
A kid with memory's he shouldn;t have retained, but did.

I stopped watching killing people movies yrs ago thank you.
We do enough to ourselves on a daily basis now.

I sometimes think. stay out of others wars. let them get on with it.
Then the brain kicks in.
If we don't. They'll be on our doorstep next.

It has to be done. (But I wish they'd use managment of with more brains...)
even though. in reality. this planet NEEDS a higher HUMAN mortality rate.
or a good disease or two.
Too many of us to sustain and growing..

Yust my thorts.

Addendum.

I and a lot of others in my, and younger age groups.
Thought about possible consequences of the above.
A Modern war.

Hence. I and them above had ocean yachts. Mine 34 then 42 ft. capable of going anywhere.
Well maintained and ready to go anywhere after filling water tanks
Fuel always full.
I had mine stocked with 3 months supply of tinned, and dry foods.
with some fresh.
Turned over regularly.
For one main reason only.... (Apart from enjoyment of sailing)

IF... There is any SERIOUS. conflict, here or elsewhere.

We'd ALL bolt. Quick smart..
Out into Southern Ocean. Or whichever you on at time.
1000 miles ofshore and capable of staying out for a min of 4 months or more.
supplementing feeding with marine life.
Till it sorted. or we all dead.
Over 50 of us in my group of sailors alone
had a meeting point arranged. (Lat and Long) Just in case.

I was brought up in the European Cold war.
Sitting on Nuclear Missile Warheads in West Germany. pointing over the wall to the Kremlin.
5 yrs of that gave you a "possibility of" mindset, believe me.

Much more so than bullets and trenches.
That's just instant. Dead... or not dead. Quite easy to comprehend in reality.

Nuclear is very insidious in your brain over long periods.
and consequences of, IN your body too over time..
I've had Bone Cancer. My face replaced one side with a Melanoma.
and several serious ones cut out elsewhere.

Be thankful you lot were born this side of the planet in those days. believe me.
You missed a lot.

ALL good fun hey.

A movie of recent times that stayed in our minds long after we watched it was "Unbroken". A true story of Louis Zamperini as a WW11 prisoner of war. For those of you who have not watched it, it will certainly impact your emotions. Produced and directed by Angelina Jolie.
cheers,

Santa.

It;s all about a number of diversified people sitting round the fire having a chat.
Starts on one subject and ends up t'other side of the world.

Human Nature is all
Personally I thing diversification. Unless a technical subject. Is fine,
IE More interesting.
